Export of Petrodollars : Special case of 2014

The exports of petrodollars over the years have shown constant increase initially and some volatility
afterwards. But, one important point to note is that the exports of petrodollars went negative for
the first time after 18 long years. A major reason for the same was a drastic drop in the oil prices
during that time. Petrodollars left the world market for the first time after a very long period.

OPEC Revenues

The above graph shows the net oil exports of OPEC from the year 1970 to the year 2015. The
revenues have been very volatile. Further, recently, the revenues have started declining driven by
development of alternatives like shale gas.
