‘SUMMATIVE EVALUATION OF PRACTICUM
The primary purpose of this document is to evaluate the progress of the Teacher Candidate and inform the
Director of the School Experiences Office (SEO) about the candidate's performance with reference to the
practicum expectations for the identified practicum course. This evaluation is written by the Faculty Advisor, with
input from the Cooperating Teacher(s) and the Teacher Candidate. It is not intended to be used as a reference
letter, The candidate's final course grade is determined by the Director, SEO.

Part A Comments:
~ _ Alyssa routinely upholds and enforces school policies (example: no hats). She is aware of fire routes and
lock-down procedures and has participated in a fire drill, She routinely follows expectations of staff and
‘has participated in school community events, such as coaching basketball and volunteering to help during
the musical
~ Alyssa has gotten to know all her students and has developed individual connections with them, She has
had individual conversations with students that are falling behind. She encouraged students to get
involved in the different activities happening at the school
~ _ Alyssa has established a great working relationship with co-operating teacher and classroom educational
assistants,
~ _ She has participated in professional development days with staff and other teacher candidates, along with
Collaboration between different schools in the division. Alyssa has also participated in Wednesday's,
Collaboration day with teachers in the math and science fields
~ _ Alyssa has collaborated with other teachers about new innovative ways to teach that step outside the box
(of standard linear styles of learning (collaborative, inquiry based leaming, station rotations, flipped
classrooms).
= She has helped coach varsity girls’ basketball atthe school and has also helped out with the musical -
back stage during spares for daytime shows, and with tickets and ushering in the evening (also got to
enjoy the musical)
~ From her CT: ” Alyssa is well aware of all school procedures, rules and daily requirements and took the
steps to ensure they were being followed. She recognized the diversity of the community and the
students in her classroom and took steps to plan accordingly. Alyssa has continued to foster and grow
relationships with staff and students using her kind demeanor and genuine interest in engaging student
Jeamers. She regularly stayed beyond class hours to aid students and develop ideas or to provide
additional assessment opportunities

~ _ From her CT: “Alyssa continues to get stronger in her pedagogical style and constantly sought new ideas
{and techniques to try in class. ‘She took on a more developed role than is necessary for a teacher
candidate in her second block - teaching 3 classes and taking the lead in constructing and directing
chemistry laboratory activities. This extra responsibilty served to increase her confidence and further her
ability to control the pace and environment of a classroom’.

~ _ In the frst class that | observed, Alyssa showed a good variety of activities supporting a meaningful mix of

‘Supported with a short video. Alyssa ensures that all students are on task and attentive. Explanations
are at an appropriate level for her student audience. Class ends with an exit slip to keep them engaged
to the end of class,
~ _ During the second observation, the lesson plan included a combination of lecture, video, and activity to

EA\to coordinate during classroom activities. The pre-tab uses visual clues and word association to

added. Alyssa has also provided an additional activity for those students who should finish early.
~ From her CT: ~ Alyssa had a fine grasp of the outcomes required by the curricula, and her lessons were
‘well designed to highlight the important points and guide students in deeper thought. She holds
Classroom attention with well-timed joking and positive reinforcements that endears her to the students,
while she moves quickly from point to point to keep a pace that requires focus and control. Her
assessment strategies were adapted to suit individual student needs for success in the content area;
Conversations regarding student ability and future needs were ongoing and productive"
Part D: Summative Comments and Suggestions for Future Growth
Part D Comments:
~ _ Alyssa has become much more confident in her ability to control the classroom during this second
Practicum session. She is persistent that students put away their electronic devices and participate in
Classroom activities. Her personality is starting to emerge as part of her teaching style,
~ During inquiry, give more time for students to answer and go to specific students to ensure involvement of

~ _ When giving students instructions, there are times when itis better to be more insistent rather than

~ _ Alyssa is able to take suggestions from her CT and FA, and readily implements them into her teaching
style. She has shown a steady improvement over the two practicum sessions this year reflected primarily
in her confidence level and lesson planning abilty
~ _Alyssa's voies is strong and clear, she projects well Likewise, her class explanations and individual help

~ _ Alyssa has connected with her students; she socializes with and is getting to know them on an individual
basis

already excels in establishing a positive classroom culture and in building relationships; with continued
experience she will continue to develop her presence, along with new pedagogical techniques and
