The Career Exploration Program for School District #23 is pleased to offer additional funding for Curricular Field Trips that provides
students with an opportunity to experience an ‘applied’ approach and practical applications of the curriculum they are currently studying.
We would like to encourage applicants to develop new, innovative field trips for all students, wherever possible. In order to satisfy funding
requirements, specific criteria must be complied with. Please provide the following information:

1. How does your field trip relate to curriculum currently being taught?
This field trip relates to the curriculum as it provides authentic real-life applications for organic chemistry, specifically of polymer
engineering. It allows students to see how chemistry and organic molecules are used to increase our quality of life.

2. Briefly describe the educational preparation that has taken place in relation to this field trip.
Three weeks of organic chemistry lessons. A semester-long discussion of potential careers which utilize chemistry.

3. Briefly describe the planned follow-up activity that relates to the field trip experience.
The students will shadow current chemical engineers. They will have a presentation from a polymer engineering research group.
