Rica is teaming with wildlife and is home to more than 500,000
species, this considered one of the most biodiverse countries
in the world. Keen eyes may sneak a peek at the elusive sloth
snoozing in a tree or the eyes and snout of Caiman breaking
the surface of the mangrove swamps. Scarlet Macaws screech to
announce their flight path over head while the haunting call of
the howler monkey echoes through the treetops. Costa Ricans
are proud of their country and are ready to welcome visitors to

DAY 1 - SAN JOSE
Fly London to San Jose, Costa Rica. On arrival transfer to your hotel for
1 night. The surrounding mountains and volcanoes provide a stunning
backdrop to the city hubbub. Distinguished by Spanish colonial buildings
that meld with busy city life for a fusion of traditional and modern.
DAY 2 - SAN JOSE – TORTUGUERO
An early morning departure to drive through the lush Braulio Carillo
National Park. Stop off for a traditional Costa Rican breakfast before
continuing through the banana plantations to Cano Blanco dock. On
arrival, board a boat for a scenic transfer through the canals of the
Tortuguero National Park, admiring the flora and fauna as you pass by.

Take a guided tour of the canals and trails of the national park where
you can catch a glimpse of the parks various species of birds, mammals
and reptiles. There’s an optional early morning boat tour and night walk
available at an additional charge arranged locally.
DAY 4 - TORTUGUERO – ARENAL
You will depart Tortuguero this morning and make the return journey to
Cano Blanco dock before continuing by road to Sarapiqui. Lunch will be
on route. Stop at La Selva Biological Station to learn about conservation
work in the area and a short rainforest walk.
DAY 5 - ARENAL
Today is a full day to the Cano Negro. One of the largest wetland regions
in Central America it is considered of international importance as it
protect many endangered migratory species. Heading north toward the
tiny town of Los Chiles where you will board a boat for a trip on the Rio
Frio. You have the chance to spot turtles, caiman, sloths, monkey’s and a
wide range of bird that frequent the riverside.

DAY 6 - ARENAL – MONTEVERDE

Drive to Lake Arenal and cross by shared boat. Continue by road to the
biological reserve of Monteverde. Established in 1972 the cloud forest
reserve of Monteverde is one of Costa Rica’s main attractions. Covering
26,000 acres and home to over 2000 varieties of plants and 500 species
of birds and mammals. You may catch a glimpse of the rare Quetzal for
which Costa Rica is famous. This afternoon, visit the hanging bridges,
a system of suspended walk ways where you can stroll through the tree
tops of the cloud forest. Afterwards, visit the Monteverde butterfly
garden where you can learn about the smaller inhabitants of the forest.

DAY 7 – MONTEVERDE
This morning, a tour of the cloud forest reserve is on the agenda. A cloud
forest is quite a different environment to the rainforest of the rest of Costa
Rica. The rainfall combined with cooler temperatures create a unique
ecosystem which supports a diverse range of plants and animals. After
your cloud forest adventure, this afternoon it is time to immerse yourself
in Costa Rican traditions. Visit a local family run farm and learn about
the production of sugarcane, coffee and other locally grown produce by
traditional methods.

DAY 8 – MONTEVERDE - SAN JOSE

Return to San Jose via the handicraft town of Sarchi on the way which is
famous for its traditional painted oxcarts.

DAY 9 – SAN JOSE

Today visit the inactive Irazu Volcano, towering an impressive 3432m
above sea level. Pass breath-taking scenery and observe local life as you
pass one of the most fertile agricultural regions in Costa Rica. The summit ARENAL VOLCANO
can often be covered in cloud and comprises of several craters. One of
these craters contains Diego de la Haya Lagoon a greenish yellow crater
lake. On very clear days it is possible to see both the Caribbean Sea and
Pacific oceans. Continue to Mirador de Ujarras for an impressive view
over the Orosi valley.

DAY 10 – SAN JOSE – MIAMI

Transfer to airport for your flight to Miami, Florida. A private arrival SLOTH
transfer awaits to take you to your hotel in Fort Lauderdale.
DAY 11 – FORT LAUDERDALE - Day at leisure
DAY 12 – FORT LAUDERDALE
Make your own way to the cruise port and embark Nieuw Amsterdam.
Depart Fort Lauderdale.
DAY 13 – KEY WEST, FLORIDA
DAY 14 – DAY AT SEA
