In this research project we introduce the OPAIN S.A. history, it stands for “Operador
Aeronáutico Internacional” in Spanish, highlighting its importance to El Dorado
international airport and the international Colombian aviation industry. This research
project exposes the history, why OPAIN was created, its functions, the members of this
company, its objectives and its mission and vision. This project has left a great group
learning by acquiring knowledge of the OPAIN’s importance to El Dorado international
airport.
In September 19th, 2007 the expansion of El Dorado Airport began becoming it one of
the most modern Airports and Terminals within Latin America, having the most advanced
technologies and therefore, performing the operations way more agile and secure. This
project was finished in March 2008, same year in which the architectonic progress of the
airport’s load terminal started, a modern building built for the Aerocivil’s use, a new
fireman’s station and an administrative cargo center; this project was finished in
September 2009. On the same year the Terminal 1 construction was launched, and it was
necessary the national cargo terminal demolition, whose operations were moved to the
international cargo terminal, which was renovated as well. This construction finished in
2012, it was denominated as Terminal 1 (T1) and its operations started in October 19th,
2012. In March 2014, the terminal in which Avianca started to operate was delivered, and
it was necessary to demolish the old passenger terminal, including the control tower.
MISSION
Our action is framed within the fulfillment of the contract, and quality of services, the
principles of social responsibility, environmental protection, welfare and safety of its
users and employees.
VISSION
To fully comply with its mission until the end of the concession contract and make El
Dorado International Airport a multiplier in Latin America.
2. FUNCTIONS:
OPAIN (International Airport Operator), it’s company created with the objective of
efficiently managing, modernizing, expanding and developing the operation and
maintenance process of El Dorado International Airport Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento, in
an efficient, safe and friendly way.
3. HSEQ OPERATION:
The health of a person is his most valuable possession, so the responsibility of OPAIN
is to ensure the good health of all employees.

OPAIN S.A. seeks to perform the processes in the most efficient way, developing
standards that help to highlight the HSEQ culture.
4. RENOVATION PROJECT:
The high demand for passengers led to the restructuring of the Luis Carlos Galán
Sarmiento International Airport, which is now called El Dorado International Airport,
with the purpose of expanding and modernizing it.
• In 2015, the project for the construction of EL DORADO II Airport was announced, the
new air terminal is expected to be operating by 2021.

OPAIN is made up of a group of companies that are part of the most important
construction companies in the country, among them are Odinsa SA, CCS
Constructores, Construcción el Cóndor, Marval SA, Termotecnica Coindustrial
de Medellín.

This company was founded in 2001 and it is part of the group of companies of the
Solarte & Solarte family, which is dedicated to the development and improvement
processes of road works projects for public and private entities, specialized in national
and international infrastructure.
