know how grass grows. Students will be able to connect art and science
Materials Needed: Clay, kiln, glaze, dirt, and seeds

Anticipatory Set: Can anyone tell me what happens in the spring time? The sun
comes out and warms the earth, the animals come out, and everything begins
to grow! Well we are going to be growing something of our own in art class. We
are going to grow grass and we are going to create little creatures today to
grow our grass in! We are going to use clay and create characters to grow grass
in and the grass is going to look like their crazy hair!

Instructional Input: Give each student a small amount of clay. Demonstrating

how to pinch the clay into a small bowl, have each student do the same. Show
each student how to roll clay to make a mouth and eyes. Show students to
scratch the clay before attaching two pieces of clay so that the attachments
will stick on. Let students have the freedom to add ears, feet, and a nose if they
want to. Bake clay pots in a kiln. Once dry have students glaze their pots. Then
