Dear Parent/ Carer

RE: Instrumental Tuition at St Julian's School

Your son/ daughter has shown an interest in learning/ continuing to learn to sing or
play an instrument and we are able to provide lesson in collaboration with Gwent
Music Support Service.

We can provide lessons on the following instruments.

 Beatboxing

 Brass - All orchestral and brass band instruments

 Guitar and Bass Guitar

 Strings – All orchestral string instruments

 Piano and Keyboards

 Percussion – Drum Kit and Tuned Percussion

 Woodwind – All orchestral woodwind and recorder

 Voice – Classical and Pop

Students receive an average of 11 lessons per school term, totalling

33 lessons per year. It is the student’s responsibility to attend all lessons, as fees are
not refundable. Lessons will not be “made up” unless cancelled by the teacher or
due to an unforeseen school closure (e.g. snow).

Lessons will be subsidised for all pupils, by the agreement of the School Governing
Body and every student will receive a minimum of 15 minutes tuition time as part of a
group, pair or individually at our discretion. These lessons will be charged at £50 per
term, per instrument.

The fees will be due at the start of each term as per this schedule. Students will not
be able to start lessons in the summer term until the payment is made. All payments
must be made by FRIDAY 17th April 2015.
Please contact us as soon as possible if you are experiencing difficulties as we do
not wish to prevent any child from taking part in lessons.
If your son or daughter wishes to stop taking lessons during the academic year we
need 6 weeks written notice so that changes to the contract can be agreed with the
music service.

Newport City Council Hardship fund

Students in Newport City Council schools who are experiencing difficulties with
increased fees and who are in receipt of Free School Meals can enquire about the
‘Hardship Fund’ which is distributed through Gwent Music Support Service. You can
find out more about the hardship fund via the website at
www.gwentmusic.co.uk/bursaries/. Your son/ daughter can collect an application
form from the music department and you will need to re-apply for the fund every
term.

There are a number of school instruments that we are able to loan to pupils, free of
charge, so they can try instruments before buying and these will normally be loaned
for a maximum of one year. The school can help with the purchase of instruments at
excluding VAT prices through the
Assisted Purchase Instrument Scheme (AIPS) which is an approved scheme by
HMRC.

If you would like you son/ daughter to receive lessons at school during the
Summer term please complete the attached consent form and return with your
payment (cheques payable to: St Julian’s School) agreeing to the terms and
conditions to Mrs H. Vinnicombe by 9:00 on Friday 17th April 2015.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss any aspect of the tuition
system further either by email: andy.edwards@stjuliansschool.co.uk or telephone:
