New Universal Rail Mill Worth Rs. 1200 crore Inaugurated in Bhilai Steel Plant
i. Moving towards the Make in India initiative, the Steel Minister ChaudharyBirender
Singh inaugurated the new Universal Rail Mill at Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) of Steel Authority
of India Ltd (SAIL) on January 23, 2017 and flagged off the mills first and world’s longest single
rail of 130 meters from the new Universal Rail Mill(URM).
ii. URM established at a cost of about Rs 1200 crore. It will take BSP’s total capacity to produce
rails at 2.0 million tons per annum (MTPA).

Former C’garh minister Tarun Prasad Chatterjee no more


i. Senior Congress leader and former state minister of Chhattisgarh, Tarun Prasad
Chatterjee passed away in Raipur,Chhattisgarh on January 17, 2017. He was 68.
ii. Tarun was elected as member of Legislative Assembly for the first time from Raipur rural
constituency in 1980, 1990, 1993 and 1998
iii. He was the Public Works Department (PWD) minister between 2002 and 2003 during the
AjitJogi-led Congress government in Chhattisgarh.
iv. He was the general secretary of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee from 2003 to 2013

Chhattisgarh Government Implements 7th Pay Commission for State Employees from
April 2017
The state government of Chhattisgarh has announced to implement the Seventh Central Pay
Commission for the state government employees from April 1, 2017, the beginning of new
financial year.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh Presents Rs 76,032 crore Budget for 2017-18
The Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh presented the annual budget of Rs 76,032
crore for 2017-18 in the state legislative assembly on March 6, 2017.
Salient Features of the Budget 2017-18
i. The estimated expenditure is 7.58 percent higher than the revised estimate of 2016-17.

ii. The revenue surplus is estimated at Rs 4,781 crore, the Gross fiscal deficit is estimated at Rs
9,647 crore, which is 3.49 percent of the GSDP.
iii. The budget allocates 36 percent of expenditure for the development of scheduled tribe sector
and 12 percent for the scheduled caste sector.
iv. The social sector expenditure is estimated at 41 percent and economic sector expenditure is
38 percent of the total expenditure.
v. Allocation for agriculture has been increased by 26 percent to Rs. 10,434 crore.
vi. Irrigation facilities: Rs. 5243 crore
vii. Organic Farming Mission: Rs. 25 crore.
viii. Divyang (specially-abled people) college at a cost of Rs 2.56 crore will be set up at Raipur for
educational upliftment of special children
Allocations for Schemes
♦ Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: Rs. 1605 crore (urban) and Rs. 2841 crore (rural)
♦ Suchna Kranti Yojna (SKY): Rs. 200 crore for 2017-18. Under the scheme, 45 lakh smartphones
will be provided to family belonging to below poverty line (BPL) and college students. The
beneficiaries would also get SIM cards along with the phone.
♦ Tourism: Rs. 100 crore, to develop 14 tourists place in 7 districts.
♦ Saur Sujala Yojana: Rs. 554 crore for solar powered irrigation scheme.
♦ Chhattisgarh Food Security Act: Rs. 3500 crore

President Appoints New Chief Justices in MP, Patna, Kerala, Chattisgrah, Jharkhand HCs
The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee announced the appointment of new Chief
Justices in the state of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Patna and Jharkhand High
Courts on March 10, 2017.
Chhattisgarh High Court: Justice Thottathil Bhaskaran Nair Radhakrishnan, Judge of the
Kerala High Court was appointed as Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

After MP CM Shivraj , Chhattisgarh’s Raman Singh announces phased liquor ban


Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh impose liquor ban in Chhattisgarh after his meeting with Bihar
Chief minister Nitishkumar.
i. Chhattisgarh CM announced and imposes a ban on liquor. He made the announcement in
Munger.
ii. He will first impose a ban on villages which has a population of more than 3000.
iii. Chhattisgarh has now become the second state to declare a ban on alcohol.

iv. The CM mentioned in his speech that first phase has already done with the government closing
down all the liquor shops located within a radius of 5 km.

CRPF Command Shifted from Kolkata to Chhattisgarh


Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has shifted its strategic anti-Maoist command
headquarters from Kolkata to Chhattisgarh.
i. Its aim is to bring focus on combing operations in Chhattisgarh.
ii. The move is in line with the Centre’s plan to redeploy its forces from peaceful West Bengal to
Maoist of Abujmad in Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh tops list of states in issuance of soil health cards
According to the reports Chhattisgarh has topped the list in issuance of soil health cards
among all the states in the country. Chhattisgarh has issued over 43 lakh soil health cards
(SHCs) to farmers in the past two years.
i. The target of providing 38,90,709 SHCs in the first phase of the scheme between 2015
and 2017 financial years, as many as 43,37,595 SHCs were issued to farmers in the state.
ii. In the second phase of the scheme the target is to provide 23,46,890 SHCs to farmers
out of which 74,211 have been given.

Chhattisgarh govt targets planting 8 cr saplings by end of August


The govenment of Chhattisgarh has targeted planting over 8crore saplings by the end of
August this year. It has been announced on 20th July 2017.
i. Chief minister Raman Singh has called for active participation of people in the ‘Hariyar
Chhattisgarh’ campaign.
ii. Oxy-zones will be developed in all the 27 districts of the Chhattisgarh.

Raipur Swami Vivekananda Airport ranked first in Customer Satisfaction Index Survey
Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, has ranked first in Customer
Satisfaction Index Surveyamong 49 airports in India.Raipur Airport has scored highest, 4.84
on a five point scale index in the latest Customer Satisfaction Index Survey conducted by an
independent agency for the period of January-June 2017.
• It has topped this survey for the third consecutive time in the past two years.
