Pneumatic Tube Systems
What is pneumatic tube system ?
A pneumatic tube system is an in-house means of transport, which conveys
items of any kind to different goals within the system. Pneumatic tube systems
are used for spontaneous transport and complement thus other in-house
conveying systems. A distribution network of tubes through which carriers of
various sizes transport items to and from designated destinations. Pneumatic
tube systems are used for rapid transportation of goods - providing or
complementing the existing intra-logistics of a facility. Swisslog Pneumatic
Tube Systems transport materials at speeds between 3 to 20 meters per
second. Pneumatic Tube System is a not merely a piece of equipment but a
detailed design solution customised specifically for each customer

How does a pneumatic tube system function?

A blower generates suction or compression of air that propels the carriers
through the tube network. Diverters create the possibility of extending the
tube network in many directions, so thatthe carriers reach all the destinations
of the system. Distance and height do not represent any obstacles. Efficient
positioning and appropriate size of the blower units offer limitless
possibilities.

Although all the Stations are equipped with Standard Control Panel. however additional and optional Security/ Safety options can be added. Swisslog
offers a variety of advanced options that enhance the functionality of our pneumatic tube system. The following options provide solutions for

Bar-Code Reader
Optionally Barcode scanner can be installed at stations. A barcode scanner is to track the
specific items sent along with their carrier. The Barcode Reader is to marry Barcode ID on
the contents & the Barcode ID on the Carrier only before the carrier is inserted into the
sending station and sent to the destination. Users at the origin and destination can also
scan barcodes on their ID badges to document the users involved with a given transaction.

Card Swipe Technology

Pneumatic tube system stations using Swisslog's card swipe technology to secure
station access have even greater protection. With this the sender and recipient
information is recorded and can be used conjunction with Swisslog's Station Access
Doors. It supports high-speed network communications and monitors the tube
system over a hospital's existing IT infrastructure. The software controls empty
storage/empty call, a function which allows carriers stored in system tubing to be
accessible to users with the press of a button.
Card swipe technology provides additional security for pneumatic tube system
station access and secure transactions. The swipe of a valid access card unlocks the
station control panel and can also unlock the Station Access Doors.
RFID- Transponder Technology (Tracking & Tracing)

Transponders can be fitted in the lids of each carrier to give the carrier its own ID, which is then
stored in the carrier database. Through these transponders the system can provide information in
real time about the particular items being transported, the location of the carrier within the
transport network and to which destination via which route the carrier is travelling. The
information is saved in the database of the pneumatic tube system control and is retrievable at
any time. This eliminates the risk of losing a send- each transport can be traced.

Due to its toughness, low elasticaI distortion, good treatment and because it is good to use and of course due to its high abrasive resistance, Hard PVC
is a very suitable material for the field of Pneumatic Tube Systems.
Another advantage of Hard PVC is the classification in building material class "B1n that means, difficult to inflame, according to addiotional regulations
for DIN 4102. It only burns, when it is decomposed by very high temperatures, constantly more than 180 degree Celsius. Hard PVC only burns together
with other materials and is decomposed. After removing from source of the fire, Polyvinyalchlorid extinguishes again.

Zone Transfer Units are used to connect all the standard zones and Powerlines. Zone transfer units
are capable of handling priority carriers, storage of carriers depending on the availability of the
rooms heights etc .. There are 2 types of Zone Transfer Units.
DBZ: Diverter Based Zone Transfer Units 1JJi..

The diverter based (DBZ) transfer units are used for branching/ switching between lines
and are manufactured using high quality steel with minimized electrostatic interference,
equipped with state-of-art maintenance free gear drive mechanism & self adjusting
optical seals for moving parts for noise-less operations.
Available 2-Zone & 3-Zone DBZ units.

AZT: Automatic Linear Zone Transfer Units ..-
The TranspoNet compact transfer unit has been designed to carry out
complex processes with modern pneumatic tube system. As a central
component, the compact transfer unit provides high operational
performance and increases efficiency.
