Gi) PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD AIS G 3454 : 2007 Carbon steel pipes for pressure service Introduction ‘This Japanese Industrial Standard has been prepared based on the first edition of ISO 9829-1 published in 1989 and the first edition of ISO 9380-1 published in 1990 with some modifications of the technical contents. ‘The portions given sidelines or dotted underlines are the matters in which the contents of the corresponding International Standards have been modified. A list of modifications with the explanations is given in Annex JB. 1 Seope ‘This Standard specifies the carbon steel pipes (hereafler referred to as “pipes") used for pressure service at an approximate maximum temperatures of 350°C. Pipes for high pressure service shall be in accordance with JIS G 3455. The dimension range in whieh this Standard shall apply is generally 10.5 mm to 660.4 mm in out- side diameter, In addition to the items specified in this text, the eupplementary quality require- ments which the purchaser can previously designate upon the agreement with the manufacturer shall be specified in Annex JA. However, it shall not ap- ply to the marking for the product. 4 Manufacturing process ‘The manufacturing process shall be as follows. a) Pipes shall be manufactured by the combination of manufacturing process and finishing method shown in table 1. b) Pipes shall be as manufactured. However, the cold finished pipes shall be an- nealed after manufacturing. ‘The purchaser may designate the heat treatment for the weld of the electric resistance welded steel pipes of STPG410, as necessary. ©) Upon request by the purchaser, pipes may be finished with the bevel end. The shape shall be upon the agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. Pipes not more than 22 mm in wall thickness shall be as given in figure 1 unless otherwise specified. 1 wal hikes, 2 mm max, Figure 1 Shape of bevel end 3 G 3454: 2007 4) In the case of white pipes, the surface of black pipes accepted in inspection shall be hot dip xine ‘oated after cleaning it by sandblasting or acid pickling. Zine used for hat dip zinc-coating shall be distilled zine ingots Class 1 in JIS H 2107 or zine ingots with quality equivalent to or superior to this. 5 Chemical composition Pipes shall be tested in accordance with 11.1 and the ladle analysis values shall be as given in table 2. In this case, the distance between the two flattened plates shall be in accordance with formula (1) to formula (3). For pipes whose nominal diameter is 40A or under, the purchaser may specify the bending test instead of the flattening test. NOTE: See 11.2.4 for the flattening test. Preference shall be left to the designation by the purchaser, or to the diseretion of the manufac- turer unless otherwise designated. a) Hydraulic test characteristics When pipes are tested with the hydraulic pressure as given in table 5, they shall withstand it without leakage. However, other non- destructive tests in place of the ultrasonic examination or eddy current exami- nation may be applied upon the agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. 9 Dimensions, mass and dimensional tolerances 1 Dimensions and unit mass ‘The outside diameter, wall thickness and mass of pipes shall be as given in table 6. ‘The length of pipes shall be 4 000 mm or over. 9.2 Dimensional tolerances The tolerances on the outside diameter and wall thickness of pipes shall be as given in table 7. "The diameter (D) and the eizcumferential length (0) shall be e lated reversibly from the following formula doa 1: circumferential tength (mm) e-31416 DB: outside diaméter tain) 10 Appearance ‘The appearance of pipes shall be as follows. a) Pipes shall be practically straight, and both ends shall be at a right angle to its b) The inside and outside surfaces of pipes shall be well-finished and free from defects that are detrimental to practical use, ©) When pipes are repaired, grinding or machining may be applicable, however, the thickness afer repairing shall be within the tolerances of wall thickness, d) The surface of the repaired part shall be smooth along the shape of pipes. 1L Test 11.1 Chemical analysis PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT 9 3454: 2007 11.1.1 General matters of chemical analysis and sampling method for analysis General matters common to chemical analysis and sampling method for analysis, shall be in accordance with clause 8 of JIS G 0404. 11.1.2 Analytical method ‘The analytical method shall be in accordance with JIS @ 0320, 11.2 Mechanical test 11.2.1 General General matters for mechanical test shall be in accordance with in clause 7 and clause 9 of JIS G 0404. The sampling method of the specimen shall be as Class A in 7.6 of JIS G 0404. 1s 2 Sampling method of specimen and number of test pieces ‘The sampling method of specimen and the number of test pieces for mechanical test shall be as given in table 8. Tn the case of white pipes, the specimen shall be generally sampled from pipes before zinc-coating. For No.4 test piece, the diameter of pipes shall be 14 mm (the gauge length 50 mm). Furthermore, the sampling direction of No. 4 test piece shall be either the pipe axis direction or the direction at right angle to pipe axis direction. Unless otherwise specified by the purchaser, the manufacturer may determine the sam- pling direction, When No. 12A, No. 12B, No. 12C or No. 5 test pieces are taken from electric resistance welded pipes, the test piece shall be taken from the part. not including the weld. b) Test method The test method shall be in accordance with JIS Z 2241. PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT a) b) 10 G 3454 : 2007 11.2.4 Flattening test ‘The flattening test piece and the test method shall be in accordance with a) and b). In the case of seamless steel pipes, the flattening test may be omitted”. However, when particularly specified by the purchaser, the test shall be carried out. In the case of electric resistance welded pipes, the flattening test may be omitted in accordance with the agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. Note " Although the test may be omitted according to the judgment of the manu- facturer, the requirements of flattening resistance shall be satisfied a) Test piece The test piece 50 mm or over in length shall be cut off from the ond of the pipe. }) Test method The test piece shall be placed between two flat plates at ordinary ‘temperature and flattened by compression until the distance H between the plates comes to the value specified in the formula (1), the formula (2) or the formula (3) in 6.2 and checked for the occusrence of flaws or cracks on its wall surface. The test piece of the electric resistance welded steel pipe shall be placed so that the line connecting between the centre ofthe pipe and the weld becomes at right angles to the direction of compression, and the weld when compressed up to H= 2D and the portion other than the weld when compressed up to H~ 2D shall be exam- ined as shown in figure 2 and figure 3. compression Disection 1: Distance between pales Figure 2. Flattening test Figure 3 Flattening test of of weld portion other than weld 11.2.5 Bending test ‘The bending test piece and the test method shall be as follows. ‘Test piece The test piece with an appropriate length shall be cut off from the end of the pipe. ‘Test method The test piece shall be bent at ordinary temperature through the angle around a cylinder with the inside radius specified in 6.3, and checked for the occurrence of flaws or cracks on it wall surface, In this ease, for the electric resistance welded steel pipes, the weld shall be placed in the outermost bent portion PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT uw G 3454 : 2007 11.3. Zine-coating test ‘The zine-coating test shall be as follows. a) Sampling method of specimen and number of test pieces For the sam- pling method of specimen and the number of test pieces, one specimen product all be taken from each 500 pipes or its fraction of the same dimensions" and one specimen shall be taken from each end of the apecimen product. One test piece for the zine-coating test shall be taken from this specimen, Note") ‘The “same dimensions” means the same outside diameter as well as the same wall thickness, b) Test piece ‘The tost piece shall be a tubular test piece of approximately 60 mm in length. However, when the test piece is too large, it may be cut into the suitable lengths of measurable. ©) Test method The test method of the copper sulphate solution for zine-coating test shall be in accordance with JIS H 0401. 11.4 Hydraulie test or nondestructive test ‘The hydraulic test or nondestructive test shall be as follows. In the case of white pipes, the specimen shall be generally sampled from pipes before zine-coating. a) Frequency of test The hydraulic test or nondestructive test shall be carried out for each one pipe. b) Test method The test method of hydraulic test or nondestructive test shall be as follows, 1) Hydraulic test Subject the pipe to the hydraulic pressure specified in clause 8 a) for a minimum duration of 9 s, and examine whether it with- stands this pressure without any leakage. 2) Nondestructive test The nondestructive test shall be in accordance with either JIS G 0582 or JIS G 0588. Other nondestructive test may he ap- plied upon the agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. 12 Inspection and reinspection 12.1 Inspection Inspection shall be as follows. a) General matters of inspection shall be in accordance with JIS G 0404, b) The chemical composition shall conform to clause 5. ©) The mechanieal properties shall conform to clause 6. a) The zine-coating test characteristics shall conform to clause 7. ©) The hydraulic test characteristics or nondestructive test characte: conform to clause 8. ties shall The dimensions, mass and dimensional tolerances shall conform to clause 9. PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT 1 G 3464: 2007 g) The appearance shall conform to clause 10, h) In the case where a part of or whole supplementary quality requirements in Annex JA upon the agreement between the purehaser and the manufacturer, they shall conform to the corresponding requirements, 12.2 Reinspection Pipes which have failed in mechanical test may be determined for acceptance by a retest specified in 9.8 of JIS G 0404. 13 Marking Fach pipe having passed the inspection shall be marked with the following items. However, the smaller pipes or athar pipes specified by the purchaser may be bundled together and marked for each bundle by a suitable means. The arrangement of items is not specified. When approved by the purchaser, a part of the items may be omit ted a) Designation of grade b)__ Designation of manufacturing process Designations indicating manufacturing process shall be as follows. ‘The dash may be omitted. 1) Hot finished seamless steel pipes. —S—H 2) Cold finished seamless steel pipes. —S—C 8) Electric resistance welded steel pipes. —E—G. 4) Hot fi 5) Cold finished electric resistance welded steel pipes. -E—C Example: For hot finished seamless steel pipes STPG370: STPG370—S—H ‘shed clectrie resistance welded stecl pipes. —E—H ©), Dimensions Dimensions shall be marked as nominal diameter x nominal thickness. Example: 50A x Sch40 or 2B x Seh40 d) Manufacturer's name or its abbreviation ©) Designation denoting the supplementary quality requirement Z (when designated) 14 Report ‘The manufacturer shall submit the test report when previously required by the purchaser. In this case, the report shall conform to the requirements of clause 18 in JIS G 0404. The type of report shall be, unless otherwise specified, standard des- ignation 2.3 or 3.1.B in table 1 of JIS G 0415. PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT 13 G 3454 ; 2007 Annex JA (normative) Supplementary quality requirements Introduction This Annex (normative) is JIS-specific and not described in the corresponding International Standards ISO 9329-1 and ISO 9330-1 JAA Scope ‘This Annex specifies the supplementary quality requirements which shall be carried out by the manufacturer upon the previous agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer, JA.2 Ultrasonic examination (23)" The ultrasonic examination shall be as follows, a) The ultrasonic test shall be in accordance with JIS G 0582. b) The criterion of the working sensitivity for the ultrasonic test shall comply with the division UC specified in JIS G 0582, and there shall be no signal greater than those produced by the artificial defects of the reference test block. ©) The ultrasonic test shall be carried out for each pipe and the results shall con- form to b), Note? The ultrasonie examination can also be designated aa 73 on trading of pipes. JA.3. Eddy current examination (24) ‘The eddy current examination shall be as follows. a) The eddy current test shall be in accordance with JIS G 0583. b) The criterion of the working sensitivity for the eddy current test shall comply with the division EW specified in JIS G 0583, and there shall be no signal greater than those produced by the artificial defects of the reference test block. ©) The eddy current test shall be carried out for each pipe and the results shall conform to the requirements specified in b).
