Victoria and Albert Museum

London is the main Britain's tourist attraction. The city is known for its ancient cathedrals,
churches and particularly for its art museums and galleries. One of them is Victoria and Albert
Museum that is generally regarded as the world’s greatest collection of the decorative arts. It is
located in South Kensington, London, near the Science Museum and the Natural History
Museum.

When it was established in 1857 the Museum was called the South Kensington Museum. It
was renamed the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1899 when Queen Victoria laid the foundation
stone of new buildings along Exhibition Road and Cromwell Road.

The Victoria and Albert is the greatest museum of art and design, a world treasure house with
collections of fabulous scope and diversity. The Museum holds over 3000 years worth of
artefacts from many of the world's richest cultures.

There are over 27.000 works and over 43,000 images in the permanent collections of
ceramics, fashion, furniture, glass, metalwork, costumes, silver, ironwork, jewellery, furniture,
medieval objects, sculpture, paintings, photographs, prints and textiles. The V&A also offers
changing exhibitions exploring various aspects of art and design. Its collection spans from the
cultures of Europe, North America, Asia and North Africa. The museum owns the world's largest
collection of post-classical sculpture, with the holdings of Italian Renaissance items being the
largest outside Italy. The departments of Asia include art from South Asia, China, Japan, Korea
and the Islamic world. The East Asian collections are among the best in Europe, with particular
strengths in ceramics and metalwork, while the Islamic collection is amongst the largest in the
Western world.

In conclusion I can affirm that I have pleasure to visit this museum, because i am fond of arts
and design.
