Remarks, Women’s March
Location TK, City TK, XXXXX
Weekday TK, Date TK, 2017

Wow, I am fired up!

Thank you, Jane, for that empowering introduction and to all the organizers who made this
Women’s March possible.

And thank you to my fellow Rhode Islanders, for joining me on this beautiful spring day.

What great weather we’re having. It’s like Mother Earth is on our side don’t you think?

I have to tell you, you are looking fierce today!

I am so honored to stand with all you fierce and fabulous women of Rhode Island.

And thank you to all the powerful allies out there who are joining us in our cause.

I want you all to know that I’m standing with you today.

I’m standing with you today because Rhode Island may be a little state.

And as women we may be the “smaller sex”.

But though we may be little, we are fierce.

And by the way as women we’re half the population so President Trump you better listen to us.

Because you know what?

We’ve got something to say.

We’ve got to tell you that we’re not gonna stay silent.

We’re not gonna sit back.

We’re not gonna give up.

And we will not back down.

No. We’re gonna send a message that we the people, the women of Rhode Island, we are not
compromising on our core values.

Our state was founded on the principles of tolerance and freedom. And today we stand by that
founding covenant.

Today we stand with the courage of our convictions and promise to fight fiercely for love,
opportunity, and inclusion.

We promise to protect those of different faiths, creeds, and origins.

And to ensure that every kid has an opportunity to succeed -- that nobody’s left behind.

Let me tell you, I saw a great sign today that said “No Hate in the Little State!”

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Because we may be a little state. We may be a small island set in a sea of discord.

But as a poet once said, no man, or woman for that matter, no one is an island.

Even in Rhode Island.

We all count on each other and rely on each other.

And we must prove we are not alone.

Because everyone is welcome here. Everyone is welcome in Rhode Island.

Everyone is welcome here regardless of your orientation, your faith, who you love, where
you’re from, or the color of your skin.

Man or woman, Christian or Muslim, black or white, large or little, we are a place of equal
opportunity and inclusion.

We are a state, and a nation, of diversity, and diversity is our strength.

But we are frustrated.

I hear you.

We are frustrated.

Because the reality is we have an administration under Donald Trump that assigns an all-male
group of lawmakers to make decisions about women’s health care.

We have an administration that blocks a women’s right to choose.

An administration that bans Muslims. And deports immigrants who have lived here and have
paid taxes for years.

An administration that revokes protections for LGBT communities, and scorns native
Americans, people of color, and Jews.

And on top of all this we have a president who denigrates women, who condones sexual
harassment, who hides behind a twitter account, and makes baseless accusations against
everyone from foreigners to former Presidents.

But the good news is we’re not standing for it.

The good news is we’re not alone.

Women and allies across this nation are fighting fiercely for the core values that make this
country strong.

Sally Yates is speaking up.

Maxine Waters is standing strong.

Elizabeth Warren is persisting.

Hillary Clinton is insisting.

And April Ryan, the White House correspondent for Urban Radio Networks, is fiercely shaking
her head.

These are the women who make this country great.

These are the mothers and the daughters and the sisters and wives who are holding our leaders
accountable.

These are the women who refuse to compromise on the values that we as a nation hold dear.

And I want to tell you that it’s up to us to help them. It’s up to us to join them and show them
that they’re not alone. They are not islands set in a sea of hate.

They are not isolated. They are not cut off because we are here to help them and support them
and empower them all the way.

And as your XXXXX, as a woman, a mother, a daughter, and a wife, I want to tell you that I am
with you.

I am with you in this fight.

I am with you at the rallies.

I am with you at the phone banks.

I am with you in the courts houses, and on the capitol steps.

Together we can stand up and stamp out the hate and bigotry that isolates and divides us.

And together we can raise each of our small but mighty voices.

Together we can fight fiercely for the compassion and strength and tolerance that make this
country the place where we belong.

Thank you and God bless you.

And God bless this fierce state of Rhode Island.
