SUBJECT: Reiteration_of the DOH licensing requirements for_nurses’
qualification in hospitals and other health facilities
Section 28. Scope of Nursing of Republic Act No. 9173 entitled, An Act providing for
a more responsive nursing profession, repealing for the purpose Republic Act No.
7164, otherwise known as “The Philippine Nursing Act of 1991” and for other
purposes states that: (c) It shall be the duty of the nurse to undertake nursing and health
human resource development training and research, which shall include, but not
limited to, the development of advance nursing practice.
Further, Professional Regulation Commission, Professional Regulatory Board of
Nursing Resolution No. 38, the Board resolves new set of rules on the implementation
of the special training requirement on intravenous therapy for nurses: (2) Completion
of intravenous therapy shall not be required for employment or promotion but may be
credited or favorably considered in the evaluation of the nurse’s application for
employment or promotion.
In alignment with these issuances, the HFSRB reiterates that training on IV
Therapy (IVT) and membership to the Renal Nurses Association of the
Philippines (ReNAP) are not licensing requirements for nurses in hemodialysis
clinics.
