It’s difficult to recommend any adventure any more highly than a guided tour through
the world-class Manuel Antonio National park conveniently located just out your
window! In fact it’s only a 20 minute walk from the villa or a short 10 minute drive away.
If you think you saw wildlife from the villa take a walk thru the national park and be
dazzled by the dizzying variety of monkeys, sloths, birds and other creatures traveling
through the tree canopy. Hunt for nocturnal silky anteaters and several types of non-
poisonous snakes resting in the tropical rain forest, and listen to the songs of the various
birds as they glide above your group, curiously looking for adventure.
Your bilingual naturalist guide is equipped with a high-power monocular and a profound
knowledge of all wildlife within the natural park. Learn about the history of the Quepoa
Indians and Costa Rica’s past in the Manuel Antonio area. See how many different kinds
of flora and fauna you can spot just in the span of the tour and whenever you are ready,
stop and enjoy some local fresh fruit and refreshments provided by your guide. If you so
desire, continue the adventure after your tour and enjoy unspoiled, un-crowded,
pristine beaches that look like heaven on earth!

Punta Coral Private Reserve is located at the most eastern tip of the Peninsula of Nicoya
on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. It consists of 30 acres of protected Tropical Dry Forest.
There are no roads leading to the property so access is only by sea.
For the last 24 years it has been privately owned and jealously protected from
development. Punta Coral is surrounded on three sides by water, and accessible only by
boat. This gives the property a feeling of being an island. Punta Coral offers visitors a day
on the water with the use of kayaks and snorkel equipment in a totally private area with
a safe beach for swimming and four walking trails. A fabulous and elegantly-prepared
seafood lunch is served with live music and cover from the Costa Rican sun.

The inshore waters of the Central Pacific coast are some of the most abundant sport
fisheries in the world. Literally thousands of Roosterfish populate the area and are
caught year around. There can be so much action with Gallos (Roosters) that often
clients prefer to target other species after hours of battling these hard fighting
“brawlers”. The IGFA all tackle world record for Snook (a 58lb. Pacific Black) and the
record for Pacific Backfin both came from the local waters and the limits of those
records are being challenged frequently.
Casting over submerged rocks and reefs can produce various Jacks and up to five
different kinds of Snapper including: Colorado, Mullet, Pacific Dog, Spotted Rose and
Yellow. When the waters are warmer (December through May) and baitfish (Herring,
Mullet, etc.) are found in tight schools or “baitballs” the action can be fast and furious
with the predators species that patrol the perimeters. Usually the baitfish reach their
mature size during the summer months from November to May and then are seen
sporadically throughout the rest of the year. These predators/sport fish include:
Barracuda (Pacific and Mexican), Pacific Bonito, Stripped Corvina, Jack Crevalle(Common
and Pacific), Dolphinfish (aka Dorado or Mahi Mahi), Milkfish, Mackerel (Sierra and
Chub), Needlefish, Black Skipjack, Trevally (Bigeye and Bluefin), Trippletail, Tuna
(Yellowfin, Bigeye and Skipjack), Wahoo. Inshore trips are done in 27' customized center
console sport fishers with T-tops. The small, light maneuverable pangas are required
when the action is right in the surf.

Blue, Black, Stripped Marlin and other Pelagic species are common in the local waters
but are more seasonally caught on their North- South migration routes. March and April
and November and December see more Marlin than other months but they are caught
every month of the year.
Dorado (Dolphinfish or Mahi Mahi) thrive in these waters. Wahoo are a seasonal fish
that occupies these waters during the warmer months from December to April, but can
be caught all year. Catch one and your chef will prepare it to perfection back at the villa!

Once the rivers reach the Pacific Lowlands they are bigger, wider and calmer and are
home to an interesting mix of species. It is in these waters that Snook usually reach their
limits of inland migration and where Machaca and Roncador also reach their limits of
seaward travel. Some of the bigger specimens of each species can be encountered so
this is typically bigger rod and heavy shock/bite tippet territory. These fisheries are
usually worked from drift boats and on foot due to the quiet, serene nature of the
environment and the wary, spooky traits of the larger fish that inhabit the area.
