Overview
This document describes how to configure EasyRET2.0 antennas for SRAN8.0 base stations.
It applies to Huawei BTS3900 V100R008C00 and later versions, providing guidance for field
engineers to configure EasyRET2.0 antennas.
The SRAN8.0 software version integrates software versions of single-mode GSM base
transceiver stations (GBTSs), NodeBs, and eNodeBs. The following table describes the
relationship between the SRAN version and base station versions.
NOTE
Remote electrical tilt (RET) modules of the EasyRET2.0 antennas involved in this document can be
used only for antenna information management modules (AIMMs) in LTE FDD base stations. (For
details about AIMM specifications, see Table 1-1.) For details about how to configure the
EasyRET2.0 antennas in LTE TDD base stations, see Smart Antenna LTE TDD Base Station
Configuration Guide.
For base stations not sharing the main processing and transmission unit (MPT), commands for the
UMTS and LTE modes are the same, which can be configured by referring to this document.
Configuration processes for GBTSs remain unchanged. For detailed configurations, see section A.6
"MML Command List."
Antennas earlier than EasyRET2.0 include embedded unpluggable remote control unit (RCU)
antennas (EasyRET1.0 antennas) and external RCU antennas. For detailed configurations, see the
RET antenna base station configuration guide (including GSM/UMTS/LTE base stations).

NOTE
In most cases, the SBT is connected to the ANTA port on the RRU. For the BTSs supplied by peer
vendors, connect the SBT based on site requirements.
2 Configuration Overview
To install antennas in cascading mode, fill the installation recording form delivered with the
antennas, as shown in Figure 2-1, and submit the form to the network administrator. Then, the
network administrator can add RET antennas according to the form.
You do not need to fill the form if you do not install antennas in cascading mode.
The local maintenance terminal (LMT) has started and works normally.
The relationship between antennas and AIMMs must comply with that described in Table 1-1.

You can configure an RET antenna by running MML commands by using any of the
following methods:
In Navigation Tree on the MML tab page, double-click an MML command, enter
parameters in the parameter input area, and then click Exec or press F9.
In the parameter input area, enter a command in Command Input(F5), click Assist or
press Enter, specify parameters in the parameter input area, and click Exec or press F9.
Select a command from the History Command drop-down list, and click Exec or press
F9.
In the parameter input area, parameters in red are mandatory and parameters in black are
optional.
NOTE
This document describes how to configure MML commands only for eNodeB
V100R006C00(eRAN6.0). The maintenance terminal UI, MML commands, and operating mode
vary slightly depending on the eNodeB version.
For details about MML commands and maintenance terminal operations, see the help information
about the related maintenance terminal.
This document describes how to configure the RET antenna only by entering commands in
Command Input(F5).
NOTE
RET SN principles for combined antennas are similar. The only difference is that the sixth digit from the
end indicates the antenna location. As shown in Figure 2-7, L indicates the left antenna and R indicates
the right antenna.
AIMM SN labels are attached to independently delivered single- and dual-band AIMMs. The
SN contains 19 digits in number-coding format. Table 2-2 describes the coding principles.
NOTE
When configuring the EasyRET2.0 antenna for the first time, use the SN stored in the antenna.
If the EasyRET2.0 antenna (only for single-band and dual-band antenna) has changed the MET
module or RET module to a new AIMM, you need to use the SN stored in the AIMM to configure
the antenna.
3 Typical Configuration
Procedure
Step 1 In the parameter input area, enter MOD RETPORT in Command Input(F5), and then click
Assist or press Enter.
Cabinet No., Subrack No., Slot No. and Port No. are specified based on the configurations of
Huawei base stations.
Current Alarm Threshold Type is recommended to be USER_SELF_DEFINE because the
current may increase during RCU calibration. The alarm generation and clearance thresholds are
configured based on the number of connected RCUs. For details, see Table 3-1.
The power switch for the ANT port on the RRU or RFU and the ALD power switch for the RET port
on the RRU or RFU cannot be ON at the same time. Otherwise, the system displays Failed on the
Common Maintenance tab page.
Table 3-1 EasyRET2.0 antenna configuration specifications for current alarm thresholds
The data in the table is based on Huawei LTE eNodeB and Huawei EasyRET2.0 antenna.
The TMA current alarm thresholds vary with the manufacturers and models. For details about the TMA current
alarm thresholds, see associated documents about the TMA.
The alarm thresholds in this table are applicable to the scenario where RET antennas are calibrated one by one.
When the antennas are in daisy chain
- If the antennas are single-band or dual-band RET antenna with integrated RCUs, the total number of the RET
SNs is no more than 6. For example, the dual-band RET antenna includes two integrated RCUs and that three
such antennas can be in daisy chain.
- When the antennas are tri- or multi-band RET antenna with integrated RCUs, the number of the RET module
cannot be more than 2.
- If you need more antennas in daisy chain, contact Huawei engineers before the operation.
Procedure
Step 1 In the parameter input area, enter DSP RETPORT in Command Input(F5), and then click
Assist or press Enter.
For details about the description of the parameters, see the notes in section 3.1 "Turning on the Power
Supply Switch to the RET Antenna."
Procedure
Step 1 In the parameter input area, enter SCN ALD in Command Input(F5), and then click Assist
or press Enter.
The serial number starting with the letter M indicates the serial number of the RET antenna when
the RET module is with the antenna, for details about the serial number, see section 2.3
"Description of SNs of EasyRET2.0 Antenna."
Procedure
Step 1 In the parameter input area, enter ADD RET in Command Input(F5), and then click Assist
or press Enter.
Control port cabinet No., Control port subrack No., and Control port slot No. can be acquired
by scanning, please refer to section3.3 Scanning the RET Antennas. In general installation scenario,
the Control port should be R0A port or RET port of RRU.
Device name is user-defined and must be unique in the system.
RET type can be SINGLE_RET or MULTI_RET.
− SINGLE_RET indicates a RET device that only control one RCU.
− MULTI_RET indicates a RET device that can control multiple RCUs.
Polar type can be SINGLE or DUAL.
SNGLE indicates that the configured RET antenna is a single-polarization antenna DUAL indicates
a dual-polarization antenna
Antenna scenario is configured based on actual physical conditions. In terms of an RET antenna
with a single external RCU, select REGULAR. In terms of an RET antenna with multiple daisy
chain external RCUs, select DAISY_CHAIN. In terms of a single-band RET antenna with a single
integrated RCU, select REGULAR. In terms of a multi-band RET antenna with integrated RCUs,
select DAISY_CHAIN.
The Vendor code and Serial No. can be scanned. For details, see section 3.3 "Scanning the RET
Antennas." When you add an RET antenna in a common installation scenario, the vendor code and
serial No. can be scanned automatically. In the daisy-chain scenario, the vendor code and serial No.
must be entered correctly and simultaneously.
Performing Step 1 to Step 3 can complete one RCU added. If multiple RCU SNs are scanned
(including the external RCUs and integrated RCUs), you need to repeat Step 1 to Step 3 to achieve
all RCUs added.
Procedure
Step 1 In the parameter input area, enter MOD RETSUBUNT in Command Input(F5), and then
click Assist or press Enter.
Before you set the RET antenna downtilt, the RET antenna must be calibrated. For details, see A.1.2
"Calibrating the RET Antenna."
The downtilt ranges of RETs from different vendors and of different models are different. To search
for the downtilt range, see section A.1.7 "Displaying the RET Device Data Dynamic Information."
The unit of Tilt(0.1 degree) is 0.1 degree. That is, the entered value is ten times of the required
value. For example, when you enter 50 in Tilt(0.1 degree), the target tilt is five degrees.
Procedure
Step 1 In the parameter input area, enter DSP RETSUBUNIT in Command Input(F5), and then
click Assist or press Enter.
If Operation succeeded is displayed in the command export area, the downtilt is queried
successfully. If the downtilt fails to be queried, find related causes and query the downtilt
again.
If in the proximal operation, you can pull out the ruler perpendicular to the antenna cover manually to
confirm the angle of the ruler.
CAUTION
In dual-NodeB scenarios, the time-consuming commands, such as loading software,
calibrating antenna, setting the downtilt, are not supported operating on both NodeBs at the
same time. If these commands executed simultaneously on both NodeBs, the NodeB which
sends command latter may fail or returns "busy". In this case, wait 2 minutes and then run the
commands again.
The following uses a quad-band antenna with four RCU SNs as an example to describe
precautions during RET antenna scanning. Two eNodeBs are represented by eNodeB A and
eNodeB B.
1 If the RET antenna with integrated RCUs is not configured, the SNs of all integrated
RCUs can be scanned with Configure Status set to UNCONFIGURED on both
eNodeBs.
Figure 4-1 shows the SCN ALD command output on eNodeB A or eNodeB B. Four SNs
can be scanned.
2. If some SNs are used to configure the RET antenna with integrated RCUs by running the
ADD ALD command on a eNodeB, only the unused SNs can be scanned on the other
eNodeB.
For example, if two SNs are used to configure the RET antenna with integrated RCUs by
running the ADD ALD command on eNodeB A, only two remaining SNs can be scanned
on eNodeB B.
Figure 4-2 shows the scanning result on eNodeB A. Four SNs are scanned. The value of
Configure Status is UNCONFIGURED for two SNs and CONFIGURED for the other
two SNs.
Figure 4-3 shows the scanning result on eNodeB B. only two SNs with Configure
Status set to UNCONFIGURED are scanned.
3. After all SNs are used to configure the RET antenna with integrated RCUs, only the SNs
used on an eNodeB can be scanned on the eNodeB.
For example, if two SNs are used to configure the RET antenna on eNodeB A and the
other two on eNodeB B by running the ADD ALD command, then only the two SNs
used on eNodeB A can be scanned on eNodeB A.
Figure 4-4 shows the scanning result on eNodeB A. Only the two SNs used on eNodeB A
are scanned with Configure Status set to CONFIGURED.
Figure 4-5 shows the scanning result on eNodeB B. Only the two SNs used on eNodeB
B are scanned with Configure Status set to CONFIGURED.
4. After the RMV ALD command is executed, the SNs of corresponding integrated RCUs
are released, with the value of Configure Status changed to UNCONFIGURED. For
details about how to delete an RET antenna, see section A.1.7 "Displaying the RET
Device Data Dynamic Information." The SNs with Configure Status set to
UNCONFIGURED can be scanned on both eNodeBs.
For example, if two SNs are used to configure the RET antenna on eNodeB A and the
other two on eNodeB B by running the ADD ALD command, then eNodeB A release an
SN.
Figure 4-6 shows the scanning result on eNodeB A. Two SNs are scanned. The value of
Configure Status is CONFIGURED and for one SN is UNCONFIGURED for the
other one.
Figure 4-7 shows the scanning result on eNodeB B. Three SNs are scanned. The value of
Configure Status is CONFIGURED for two SNs and is UNCONFIGURED for
another one.
SN scanning results of combined EasyRET2.0 antennas are different from those of common antennas.
The SN of the combined EasyRET2.0 antenna contains color-coding digits to distinguish antenna ports
and the sixth digit from the end to distinguish left and right antennas. For details, see Figure 2-7.
Procedure
Step 1 Record the downtilt of the original antenna by pulling the ruler and reading the scale.
Step 2 Record the relationship between the RET SN and antenna band.
Step 3 Scan and add the new RET SN by referring to sections 3.1 "Turning on the Power Supply
Switch to the RET Antenna" to 3.4 "Adding an RET Antenna."
Step 4 After upgrade, load antenna configuration data and calibrate the antenna by referring to
sections A.1.1 "Loading RET Antenna Configuration Data" and A.1.2 "Calibrating the RET
Antenna."
Step 5 Configure the antenna downtilt by referring to sections 3.5 "Setting the Downtilt of the RET
Antenna" and 3.6 "Querying the Downtilt of the RET Antenna."
For detailed operations in Step 1 and Step 2, see the related AIMM installation guide.
The following figure (AIMM installation recording form) shows the relationship between the band
and the AIMM SN after the single-band antenna is upgraded.
After the dual-band is upgraded, the relationship between the band and the RET SN is as follows:
Place the top side of the antenna up and face the end where the RET module is located. Then, read
the bands in an ascending order. If the bands are the same, read the bands from the left to the right
or from top down. Match the bands with the last digit of the AIMM SNs.
For example, as shown in the following figure (AIMM installation recording form), the SN whose
last digit is 1 corresponds to a low band and the SN whose last digit is 2 corresponds to a high
band.
Procedure
Step 1 Record the downtilt of the original antenna by pulling the ruler and reading the scale or by
running the command LST RETSUNBUNIT on the LMT
Step 2 Record the relationship between the RET SN and antenna band.
Step 3 Check and delete configuration information of the replaced antenna by referring to sections
A.1.9 "Displaying the RET Dynamic Information" and A.1.10 "Deleting an RET Antenna."
Step 4 Scan and add the new RET SN by referring to sections 3.1 "Turning on the Power Supply
Switch to the RET Antenna" to 3.4 "Adding an RET Antenna."
Step 5 After upgrade, load antenna configuration data and calibrate the antenna by referring to
sections A.1.1 "Loading RET Antenna Configuration Data" and A.1.2 "Calibrating the RET
Antenna."
Step 6 Configure the antenna downtilt by referring to sections 3.5 "Setting the Downtilt of the RET
Antenna" and 3.6 "Querying the Downtilt of the RET Antenna."
See the note in section 4.3.1 "Upgrading a Single- or Dual-Band MET2.0 Antenna to an EasyRET2.0
Antenna."
For detailed operations in Step 1 and Step 2, see the related AIMM installation guide.
The following figure shows an antenna nameplate, on which the band and corresponding SN of the
multi-band MET2.0 antenna are displayed.
During AIMM installation, calibration and angle adjustment are required when the motor is faulty and
the AIMM needs to be replaced.
The RET module can be directly replaced, which is convenient and reflects the advantage of
the EasyRET2.0 antenna.
