Unit 1 provided an overview of communication in todays business workplace. Of the concepts
covered I felt that I most strongly understood the listening skills section. As a former Project Manager, I have already understood the need to be a good listener to improve performance in the workplace. This allowed me to identify the real-world applications and associate them with my previous experiences both good and bad. I still have questions about the intercultural communications segment of the unit. Intercultural communications are vital in today’s workplace and to thrive in todays society one must be extremely well versed in the do’s and don’ts when communicating in an intercultural environment. I have taken to reviewing my notes and looking for situations where I can use the lessons to apply them to a real-life conversation. For the next Unit I plan to actively use the information provide to both improve my communication skills and cement the lessons into my muscle memory.
