Transfer QUEST is a three-and-a-half day program that takes place just before classes begins in the fall from August 30 - September 2, 2017. There will also be planned optional activities on September 3 and 4. At Transfer QUEST you'll meet 2 lot of new people: almost 4,000 other new students and potential Facebook flands, plus current students professors and ‘staff members. You'll learn alot about Calvin and the resources that are here for you. During Transfer QUEST, you'll connect with an orientation group of about 20 other Transfer ‘students who will go through Transfer QUEST together. ‘Transfer QUEST includes a service-learning component, Streetfast, where you’l learn about one of the eclectic neighborhoods in Grand Rapids. Expect to have a lot of funl By the end, you ray be a bit tired (the days are ful from approximately 9:00 am into the evening), but you'll be ready {for classes to begin on Tuesday, September 5. More information '17 THEME — PLACE: ENGAGING, UNDERSTANDING, AND RENEWING, “ ‘Our place deeply influences who we are and how we live. As orientation staff, we invite incorring ‘students to shape and be shaped by Calvin, contributing their cits, talents, end unique ‘expariences to this place. Throughout QUEST, the concept cf piace will tie together the topics, discussions, and sessions intended to help students transition to college. ‘The frst day of QUEST will focus on “Engaging Place,” and students will explore what it means ‘0 do God's work by sorving and learning in the city of Grand Rapids. The third and last day of QUEST focuses on “Renewing Place.” At Calvin, wo boliove that God is renewing every aspect ofthis world. Students will be learning about the brokenness within ‘ourselves, our college, and our world, and how God Is renewing all. WHAT TO EXPECT . Steps to complete before you arrive 1. Ifyou are a first-year student, you are already enrolled. 2. Pay your enrollment deposit, if you haven't already. 3. Be sure you have received a confirmation email from the Campus Involvement and Leadership Office. 4, Plan to arrive on campus the morning of Thursday, August 31, anytime after 9 a.m. 5. Print out driving directions and a campus map (see our Information & Resources page) Checking In You may move to campus Thursday, August 31 after 9 a.m. QUEST officially begins with an all- ‘campus cookout at 5:00 p.m. with opening activities starting at 6:30 p.m. ‘ON-CAMPUS STUDENTS Upon arrival, follow the road signs to your residence hall where you can check-in after 9:00 a.m. You will be greeted by an army of "We-Haulers"—students who are eager to transport all of your belongings from your vehicle into your residence hall room! You will have the entire day to get settled into your room. Your Orientation Leader (OL) will post a note on your door telling you your orientation group number. Following dinner you will assemble with your orientation group for check-in. OFF-CAMPUS STUDENTS You are welcome to have lunch and dinner on-campus during the day on August 31. You will receive a phone call to your off-campus residence from your Orientation Leader (OL) telling you your orientation group number which you will meet following dinner. We do not offer on-campus, sleeping accommodations during QUEST, but all the meals during QUEST are included for you. You will check in when you meet your Orientation Group at 6:30 p.m. Meals ‘All meals for new first-year students are included during QUEST, beginning with lunch on ‘Thursday, August 31 and continuing through dinner on Monday, September 4. In this program, you'll learn more about college life, meet with an academic advisor to pian your fall course schedule, and mest some of your new classmates. Orientation costs ‘A $250 orientation fee will be charged to your student account that covers all costs (food, programming, staffing, and student housing) associated with orientation —both PASSPORT and QUEST—except housing for parents and family members. Note that adaitional costs are associated with Wilderness Orientation, IMPAGT, and International PASSPORT. Up to two adult family members. can attend PASSPORT at no further cost; additional family members will be charged $50 each. ‘There is no adcitional charge for students to stay in the residence halls for PASSPORT. For PASSPORTS Ill and IV, families are invited to stay in the residence halls for a $36 charge that covers ‘accommodations for all family members. If either the student and/or family members choose not to stay in the residence halls, the student's orientation costs will not decrease. I you are attending PASSPORT V, you will move into your permanent residence hall when you arrive, Please note that no housing is available for family members during PASSPORTS I I, and v There is no charge for you to stay in the residence halls for PASSPORT, and choosing not to stay In the residence halls will not decrease your orientation cost. For PASSPORTS Ill and IV, there is a $35 charge for families staying In the residence halls that covers accommodations for all family, members. WHAT TO BRING Y ALL ATTENDEES SHOULD BRING THE FOLLOWING: + Comfortable shoes + Casual clothing + Umbrella (optional) + Backpack/Day bag (optional) OVERNIGHT GUESTS MAY ALSO WANT TO BRING THE FOLLOWING: + Tolletries, + Fan (optional) - We do provide fans that can be rented for a small fee; however, availability is on a first come, first served basis. + Alarm clock (optional) Please note that pillows, linens, and towels are provided for you in the residence halls. STEPS TO REGISTER > CHOOSE FROM ONE OF FIVE PASSPORT SESSIONS THIS SPRING AND SUMMER « PASSPORT | - April 21 + PASSPORT Il - April 28 = PASSPORT Ill - June 23 « PASSPORT IV - July 7 * PASSPORT V - August 30 (designated for students and families who must travel long distances) PASSPORT V occurs Immediately prior to the time when all new students must report to Calvin. This session is planned intentionally ta accommodate new students who live a considerable distance from Grand Rapids and cannot make two trips. Preference will be given to students who apply before May 1. If you need to make changes to your Orientation registration, please resubmit your registration. If you need to make changes within two weeks PASSPORT please contact aur office at orientation@calvin.edu or 616-526-8507, EARLY AND LATE CHECK-IN “ Did you sign up for an early check-in or late departure? Upon arrival, follow the road signs to the Check-in location, where you'll receive a resource packet, room assignment, and personalized schedule. EARLY ARRIVALS ‘+ Checicin for early arrivals is from 7:30 - 11 p.m. the evening before PASSPORT. ‘+ Refreshments and activities will be offered in the evening for students and families arriving the night before PASSPORT. Please note that meals will not begin until breakfast the following morning. + There is an additional $36 fee per family for early arrival for PASSPORTS Ill-V. LATE DEPARTURES. + Late departures are available for PASSPORTS I-IV. This involves an additional night of housing and a light breakfast the next morning. Please note that late departure will not include housing for family members during PASSPORTS Il, and V. ‘+ There is an additional $35 fee per family for late departure for PASSPORTS Ill and IV.
