Idea’s for Art History classes Summer of 2017

Two part lesson/activity


Exploration (field trip) and Restoration of History though Art

Learning Intention - Students will experience the Alice Austen House,


take pictures and develop their own experience for Photograph. Participants will take
photos with their own camera to treasure the beauty of the world through their own eyes.

Warm Up - Before taking our walk around the Alice Austen House, we will do
some eye exercises. Participants will be encouraged to use their vision to look around the
grounds, as far as the eye can see. They will look at what is in front of them, on the
sides, and behind, while standing in their own area space.

Motivation - Participants will be motivated by positive reinforcement and


encouragement.

Mini Lesson - Participants will engage in conversation about what they


would like to photograph.
1. Students will learn about Alice Austen and her photograph
2. Students will see Alice Austen original works and make comments inference to
what they see.
3. Participants will be able to take their on photographs
4. Participants will be able to admire their work through the second part of our
lesson.
Guided Activity upon our return
Participants will become photographs.
1. Participants will show their work on a large colorful oak tag.
2. Participants will walk around the room and admire each others work
3. Participants will choose one image that they would like to frame
4. After they have made their choice, the remaining photographs can be glued onto the
colorful oak tag.
5. Participants will choose a wood picture frame
6. Participants will paint their frame
7. When the frame is dry, they will slip their photo into the frame.
8. They will sign their frame
9. When this is complete, we will display their photograph as they had seen in the
Gallery

Individual work - Participants will work independently, with reinforced


instruction.

Materials needed - Oak tag, disposable cameras, or if they have their own
or a parent phone, wood picture frames, Michaels $1.00 each, bronze, gold, or silver
paint,paint brushes, glue, and a black sharpie for them to write their name on the
frame.

Summary - Share When the project is compete the participants will be able
to tell their friends all about the picture they took and if they enjoyed being a
photographer for that day.
