Digipak

Digipaks are often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums. They typically consist
of paper pages with one or more plastic trays capable of holding CD or DVD discs.

The word “Digipak” was first introduced by MeadWestvaco (2000) and now it is commonly
used by many manufacturers.

Generally, the digipak will include elements of what the artist represents and what their genre is.
They can emphasise the artists’ brand identity and image. This can benefit the artist because
they’re promotional products which help to bring awareness whilst encouraging consumers to
buy and listen to their music.

One disadvantage of digipaks is the fact that they are prone to scratches and rips meaning they
show signs of wear much sooner. However, they are considered to be more environmentally
friendly than jewel cases because they can be made out of recycling paper.
