Situation During my placement I was asked to work within a team of 3 to develop a feasible marketing strategy for Austern International. As we were finalising the strategy, we decided to implement the more dominant team member’s strategies.
Task However, unfortunately these strategies were not successful during implementation so we were forced to redesign the strategies within the final 2 days. At this point our team was very frustrated at each other, however we had to work together and implement a marketing strategy before the deadline.
Action As a result, I decided to step up and hold a team meeting in order to voice our opinions and mixed feelings about the task. In order to understand each of the team members better, I talked to each of them individually about their concerns for the project. We also brainstormed through more ideas during a sprint design problem solving technique, which allowed all members of the group to voice their ideas.
Result We ended up with a successful winning idea, through combined efforts of the team. I learnt the importance of planning before implementation and listening to the ideas of all group members. In stressful situations, it is always important to remain calm and be able to approach the task on hand. It is just as important to listen than to speak up in group situations.
