the hustle and bustle of the holiday season isVolume 4, Issue 5

Mary Shapard what the season is all about…..celebrating the birth of our Jesus Christ.
2nd Vice There are many exciting DKG events coming up in the next several months.

Wingate Methodist Church in Macon. As you probably notice, this is the same date
Recording as our chapter meeting, so you decide which you would prefer to attend.

Becky Avera tips and meet amazing sisters from across the state. Nita Scott, DKG
International Executive Director, will be the presenter and she is amazing.

Treasurer- Jonesboro and Morrow, GA from March 16-18, 2018. The deadline for
Eve Schroeder registration forms is February 14. This weekend is strictly for sister

Dr. Albany, We will have a special guest at our meeting in March. The Psi State

Parliamentarian- chapter and share her knowledge of DKG. Virginia is an amazing speaker
and I know she will inspire us all, as I know we will impress her.
Hoping to see each of you at the chapter meeting in February. Our
program will be very inspiring and heartfelt as Jennifer Sapp, the director
and founder of the Challenger League, will tell about this non-profit
organization which provides special needs children the opportunity to
participate in organized sports activities and summer camps.

Challenger League. This organization provides children with special needs and/or
disabilities to participate in sports teams, social clubs, summer camp, special events, and
weekend outings. Challenger League serves individuals with behavior disorders, Cerebral
Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, Asperger’s, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Spina Bifida, and

Thinking of Our Sisters

Our Xi Chapter sister, Patti Wingate, really needs our prayers. As you
remember, Phillip, Patti’s husband, passed away in December. Then, a
few weeks later, Patti had surgery on her foot. Just a couple weeks ago,
she tripped, broke her kneecap in half, and had surgery on her knee in
Columbus, GA. Cards would really be appreciated! Her info is: 1600
Orchard Drive, Albany 31707.
Please keep Virginia Gray in your thoughts and prayers as well. She
continues to receive treatments and has some good days and some bad.
I know Virginia would love a note or card to show that she is being
thought of. Her contact info is: 2525 Pheasant Drive, Albany 31707.

Who We Are in the Challenger League

We started as a dream from a mother that simply
wanted her special needs child to play a REAL
game of baseball without the strict level of
competition that often comes with little league
baseball. The need was so large that it has rolled
into a non-profit to provide more typical
experiences that the special needs kids can be
involved in, and the parents can enjoy watching.
Since we have been able to bring more adventures
to our kids, we now have baseball, kickball, dance
line, summer camps, bowling, tennis camp,
wrestling, and weekly summer adventures. Info
obtained from: challengerleague.org.

Great Silent Auction for Elise Boylston Fund

It seems that every December, our Silent Auction

becomes more and more successful! Another record
amount of money was taken in from sales and
donations amounting to $798 for the Elise Boylston
Foundation Grant Fund. Mary Shapard and Janice
Sheppard did a fantastic job in setting up,
organizing, and displaying the many items that were
donated by Xi chapter members for the auction. A
huge thank you goes to them and to all the members
who brought items, bid on items, and made
generous donations for the cause! Please remember
that our next Silent Auction in March will benefit
the World Fellowship Fund.

Those members present at the December Xi Chapter meeting

were able to meet Lisa Gilligan, our District V Director. Lisa
lives in Thomasville and is the president of her chapter there.
She retired after 33 years of teaching, although, currently
works 49% in the Thomas County School System. Lisa was
very impressed with the brunch, the silent auction, and
especially our sisters. She even left the chapter meeting with
some goodies she had bought from the silent auction. Becky
Avera created a beautiful gift basket of goodies which she
presented to Lisa during her visit.

Purposes

Twelve women met in 1929 on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin with
noble aspirations to build an organization to promote women in education and bring
recognition and respect to their profession. The result of their planning was the
founding of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. These Founders created a
list of five Purposes which were intended to guide the organization. This number later
grew to seven. These Purposes are as relevant today as they were in 1929.
To Unite women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship
To Honor women who have given of who evidence potential for distinctive service in
any field of education.
To Advance the professional interest and position of women in education
To Initiate, Endorse, and Support desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in
the interests of education and of women educators
To Endow scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate
study and to grant fellowships to women educators from other countries
To Stimulate the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their
participation in appropriate programs of action
To Inform the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues
so that they may participate effectively in a world society
