comedies in point of plot, character, language, themes and subthemes. Essence vs. appearance.
Fathers and daughters. Brothers and sisters in the comedies. Supernatural elements in the
comedies (and tragedies).

2. Hamlet as a political / domestic tragedy. Fathers and sons; family ties in Hamlet. Critical
interpretations. Struggle for power in Hamlet and Macbeth.

3. Similarities and differences between Hamlet and Macbeth.

4. History, tragedy and comedy in Henry IV (1).

5. Shakespearean elements of Webster's The Duchess of Malfi. Bosola as an ambivalent character

- villain and revenger. The Duchess - characterization (comparison with Hamlet).
