Description of how to implement in the class:
The students will be partaking in an Enlightenment survey. This will serve as the opener/warmup for
the first day of the Enlightenment unit. Students will be instructed to get out their cell phones and
click on the link to the Enlightenment survey. Once completed, the teacher will go over the results of
each question and discuss as a class before introducing the origins of the Enlightenment. At the end of
the unit, the students will learn about different Enlightenment thinkers and their ideas compared to
their own that was taken in this survey.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi):
This activity is ranked as a LoTi Level 3: Infusion. The students are using technology, their cellphones,
to complete the survey. The students are asked to use the higher-level thinking skill of evaluation
because they are making a judgement about the value of each statement based on their own
experiences and opinions.
Description of the sample spreadsheet and graph/chart provided *:
The Enlightenment survey consists of 15 statements that relate to Enlightenment ideas. Each
statement is accompanied by a choice of “agree, disagree, strongly agree, or strongly disagree.” The
students are instructed to read each statement carefully and decide their choice based on their own
opinions.
