11/18 The Search for Other Earths!

 Up until 1990’s only knew of the planets in our solar system


 Using algebra, one can show that the luminosity of the reflected host
star light from an extrasolar planet is related to the host star luminosity.
 If there is a planet whose orbit passes in front of the star in our line of
vision, we will see a slight dip in the amount of starlight that reaches the
earth.
 The new telescope could image the planets so we could perform a
spectroscopy. Then we could determine if it was suitable for life.
