TROUT Chris Wood UNLIMITED President & CEO. February 6, 2018 Mr. Sergio Marchionne Chairman and CEO 1000 Chrysler Dr. PO Box 21-8004 Auburn Hills, MI 48321 Dear Mr. Marchionne: Thave always admired that a Jeep will get you to the end of the road, no matter how bumpy and rutted. Iam certain many of Trout Unlimited’s 300,000 members and supporters drive Jeeps on their way to fishing, But when they arrive at the river's edge, they do the responsible thing, and get out of the Jeep. I used to own a CJ7, and took that truck all over the hills of Vermont. What I never did, however, was to drive up the center of a stream. At Trout Unlimited, we work every single day to make fishing better for everyone. We work on the ground restoring our nation’s rivers and streams. We work in the halls of government to enact policy that improves and protects America’s watersheds. Our members and supporters are passionate about trout, rivers and clean water. ‘The commercial that aired on Sunday might appeal to some, but to sportsmen and women it was wrongheaded. Upon seeing your ad, my eight-year-old son asked, “Dad, isn’t that really bad for the stream?” Why would my son ~ seven or eight years from getting his driver’s license — know that driving right up the middle of a healthy waterway is harmful to fish, riparian wildlife and clean water, but Jeep would not? Atour farm in West Virginia, we will occasionally drive across a designated ford—a hardened crossing meant to pass vehicles over a creek, but your ad showed someone driving a Jeep straight up the stream bed, as if it were an acceptable practice Jeep got some bad marketing advice on this one, and I hope you will discontinue this commercial and its implication that it is fine to drive up the middle of an otherwise healthy creek. [am always available if you ever have any questions about conservation, water quality, or fishing. ‘Thank you for your consideration All my best, hh ce: Shawn Morgan ‘A mission to conserve, protect, & restore North America’s coldwater fisheries and their watersheds, National Office: 1777 N Kent St. Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22209 T: (703) 284-9403 F: (708) 284-9400 cwoodetuorg WwwW.tu.0%g,
