Statement of the problem

This research aims to identify the lived experiences of the parents with mentally retarded children in the
Heart of Play, Sacred heart of Jesus Parish.

Specifically, this research seeks to answer the questions:

1. What is mental retardation?

2. What are the contributing factors of mental retardation?
3. What are the different interventions used by the parents with mentally retarded children?
4. What are the perceptions of the parents about mental retardation and having mentally retarded
children?
5. What are the coping mechanisms and adaptations of the parents and caretaker of mentally
retarded children?
6. What are the problems experienced by the parents of mentally retarded children in the
emotional, financial, social and behavioral aspect?
