a viagem dos sons
The ideo of sounds trovelling is in o woy, o definition of behoviour potterns ossocioted with
music, which in sorne way hove offected the itinerories constructed by peaple. From the fifteenth
century, the Portuguese soiled out in search of new seos and new londs, taking with them and
bringing bock from their voyages sounds, colours and flavours which functioned very much as
a gentle mediator, contributing greatly to breaking down distances and revealing cultural affinities.
In other words, by looking at the history of the Portuguese Navigations in these sensorial aspects,

Reseorch into ethnomusicology has focused particularly on the issue of the ¡ourney itself in studies

in affections ond the seductions wrought by the two universes in confrontation: the one left behind,
and the one receiving the new-comer. lt is precisely in the relationship between what is mutuolly
odopted and rejected in these two contexts that the ¡ourney of sounds con be defined.

NOTA DO EDITOR
quem me privei tempo demasiado nestes dais últimos anos ... esta «viagem» nao existiria. Com o
desejo de que a viagem continue ...
JOSÉ Moc;.As
