5. A block of mass m is resting on top of another really long block. The


coefficient of friction between the materials of the blocks is given to
be µ. The bottom block, which is initially at rest, is put into motion
with acceleration, a = αt. Describe the motion of the top block as a
function of time. Analyze the problem in an inertial frame attached to
the lab.

6. A wooden rod pivoted at its base making an angle α with the horizontal,
is rotating with constant angular speed ω. A ring of mass m can slide
up or down the rod, with coefficient of friction µ. Find the condition
that the ring stays at a point a distance L from the pivot.
