The development of the Germanic period starts in pre-written stages of

human history. Before Germanic formed as a separate linguistic group it was a

dialect of Indo-European language. Germanic group developed its specifically
linguistic traits during the first millenium B.C. At that time Germanic tribes split up
from other West Indo-European tribes and this marked the beginning of
Germanic linguistic history. These tribes have spoken almost the same dialects
and this language was the parent of all Germanic languages ”Comon Germanic”.
Common Germanic era lasted till the beginning of our era. After spliting
Germans came in touch with their neighbours, united and formed new tribes.
These movements were reflected in their speach. They developed new Germanic
dialects. By the end of the Comon Germanic Era the germanic tribes populated
Eastern Europe, Southern Europe, Scandinavia, and Western Europe, where they
met new tribes like Celts, Latins, helped the formation of Slavonic and Baltic
Languages in East. They also came in touch with non-Indoeuropean tribes and had
a big influence in their linguistic features.
At the Beginning of our era Common Germanic Period came to end.
