Volume 8 No Game No Life (Prologue)
Volume 8 No Game No Life (Prologue)
Continue.
-----If I have to die for the sake of this world.
What am I supposed to do?
========================================================
[1] Fuseki (布石 or 布局 in Chinese) is the whole board opening in the game of Go (a board game)
But he, thinking "If I can at least die for my beloved girl" had a smile on
his face.
----"There's something I fear more than death".
Thus, in a loud lightning strike, he died. And the world was saved.
He left a crying girl behind, 'For the sake of the man that saved this
world, I will continue to live'.
With her telling these cliché lies to herself the story ended.
The siblings' screen flashed white, and when the ending credits started
to roll they thought,
" There's something I fear more than death" huh?"
But why did the man(hero) who died in exchange for the girl(heroine) say
that?
Why didn't he say something like,
==================================================================
TL notes:
[1]自己犠牲 means self sacrifice, but it sounds redundant and the meaning portrayed by that word was heroic sacrifice
Out of hundreds of millions of sacrifices, only one was needed, and they
didn't have to die.
In fact, it was great. Amazing cost to performance ratio. It was an
exceptional feat!
Now then...
What do you think of the girl that was left alone?
The thing the man feared more than death is the thought that his
beloved person would be forced to live without him.
....."That man, escaped from this by dying"
The girl who wished the man who risked his life would be saved, what
did she feel?
The siblings, looking at each other, had the same thought.
---This coward.
I see, so this heroic sacrifice, is just something to say.
It's "just his ego", if you put it this way no one will complain.
If someone ever complains... the hero will already be long gone.
It is not about deciding "who will die", the siblings thought.
-----It’s either "Both will die".
-----or "Both will live".
It’s only about these two options.
After all, it's "just his ego". If they believed in each other, they could've
made it through,
and if they chose the "Both will live" option, If the world was going to be
destroyed-------
If that's the case, can they smile while escaping to the ends of the earth
until their last moment?
This complaint called "ego" will be gone.
If somebody still complains... They’ll be gone together with the world!
...But, even so...
Laying down his younger sister who started sleeping, the black-haired
boy thought.
-----If I have to die for the sake of this world.
What am I supposed to do...?
Myself or my sister, if one of us has to die? I cannot help but say it is out
of the question.
Die together?
---That would be somewhat better but, I still wouldn’t want to.
How about live together? ....This would be the most desirable choice.
What if we both stayed alive? ....This would be the most desirable choice.
---But even so...
What if "The world is going to be destroyed, NO STUPID IDIOT!" as I
said, this will result in running away.
I'm pretty sure... "I wouldn’t be able to smile", while brushing his sister's
hair, he thought.
The pair from the game--- to "save everything in this world", what should
they have done?
■■■■■
----38 days since the game started.
On a spiral shaped continent floating in the sky--- was the game called
Sugorokuban[1] created by the Old Deus.
Although lost from the original track they are still in the game.
On the 296th square, a transcendent phenomena occurred.
==================================================================
[1] a traditional Japanese board game played with dice
[2] Real Time Strategy, A game genre, Example: Starcraft II and Age of Empires
".....Calm down. First we have to analyze the situation or we won’t be
able to do anything!"
Without focus and with a blank state of mind, Sora spoke.
This is a [Task] influenced by Jibril’s imagination...
---[The only target groups of this task are those with more than two
persons. Immediately swear to the oaths to the game presented to you
and win.][1]
This might be a period from before the ten oaths were in effect.
=================================================================
[1] Just a recap, this line is the same from Fate Scarlet's Volume 7 Fan translation
Page 153 of 166 Line 15 ——[With more than two people, pledge immediately to the
Oaths and, in accordance to it, be victorious in a game instructed by someone other
than the targets of the task.]
As the constant impacts of the attacks outside worried her, Steph stood
up and said.
"I-I'm... just going to peek outside!?"
"W-WAIT!.... Let's try to send a unit equipped with a weapon, and a scout
"
With stroking movements, Sora wrote the [Command] on the paper with
a brush.
There was a fast forward button displayed on the [Map] labelled "eight
hours in one second"[1]
If this cave, the [Capital], is the "Player space" then, outside---- in other
words, we are "Inside the game" I’m not sure about going outside but, if
we were to go outside, we won’t know what we could come across.
Touching a [Unit] on the map displays that unit's information.
Information such as Age, Gender, etc.---- "Combat Power" doesn’t exist.
However, the displayed "ID(Unit name)" can be used to send a command.
Having done that, he fast forwarded the construction of an axe wielding
unit.
==================================================================
[1]seems vague but it's just a fast forward button making the 8 hour progress into 1
After touching the map on the desk, He checked the display and the word
"Spirit" was written.
Grinding his teeth, he touched the scout on the map and zoomed in.
Inside the cave, the unit's field of view was projected on a screen in mid-
air.
The unit's field of view----So it’s the view "outside the cave".... This
disastrous scene.
Suppressing his breath, Sora smirked and said with a cracked voice.
".....HAHA, Is this the [Great War]? There's no way this is the Great War,
Jibril"
This absolutely isn’t a war.
Whatever earth's final war might be, if you look forward to it, this is a
paradise compared to that.
The word that came from Sora's group with a challenging expression, if
he had to use the exact word.
It would’ve been [Hell].
......Is this constant alteration of geography, the [Great War]? This has to
be a joke.
"How did Immanity survive this inferno!?", he shouted.
I know.... Jibril doesn’t have a reason to lie.
w o r l d
Then, this [Great War]-----The period where Immanity survived.
p a s t
Besides, Jibril expected the history of "ending Immanity".
"I can't believe this! The axe wielding unit was simply vaporized by the
wind!?"
---With Sora's shout, as if they were intentionally matched, the heavens
flashed once again.
And the terrain that was projected on the [Map] changed slightly,
---The [scout]'s field of view that was projected on the screen ceased and
turned into darkness.
"This isn’t a strategy game!! Strategy my ass---- how are we supposed to
fight this!?" He yelled.
I know.... This is natural right?
I don’t know how much power the 16 races had before the oath took
place---not exactly.
But with 5% of her power she split up the sea, and even with a direct hit
from a hydrogen bomb, Jibril was unscathed.
If millions of Immanity grouped up, they’d be like a group of fish in a net,
that's obvious.
"......Nii, e-even then.....If you construct the death stack....... a one time
attack.....would do----"
"To those air units(map insects)!?!? Those that have terrain changing
ranged attacks!?"
Then, when another impact neared----Sora pointed to the [Map].
"The terrain changed again! So pulling off a one-time attack? Only a
single stray bullet is needed to annihilate the [Capital] you know!?"
In Sora's mind---- Jibril said, "This is called [Shivi]"
I get it, all right. Now then, Let's devise a plan with this [Shivi]
-This civilization is bound by "ancient times", and the other race at the
[present-time] is a super efficient unit.
It can destroy facilities with a nuclear strike, alter the terrain without
penalties, and can be fired consecutively as well.
Or perhaps I should say, even a normal facility can't be built.
What is this whole civilization doing? [The war has already been
declared].
If we build a poorly constructed city and the local civilization comes into
contact with the city borders, a large portion of the enemy(death stack1)
will go after it.
Fighting would be a suicide attack, in addition, the victory condition is
the [Destruction] of the [Enemy Capital].
If this Capital is discovered, it will be an almost guaranteed instant
Official Cheat
defeat, our enemy is the Flügel.
1Also known as the deathball. A common RTS strategy where a player gathers a collection
of units so strong, it is basically unstoppable.
"T-then if that’s the case, should it be a lot better to [withdraw] from the
game!?"
----Then the next thing to say is to propose "That rule".
"E-even if our dice reach zero we won't die right!? As long as somebody
reaches the goal nobody's going to die, Sora said that right!? T-Then if we
let Jibril reach the goal----"
---That rule was [withdrawing] from the game.

[1] a game designed purposely to be easily beaten by anyone
"W-why.... is everyone doing this, desu!?"
c r y i n g
Hatsuse Izuna, said howling at the images shown on the screen.
A floating ink jar standing on nothing, a cold mineral, that nonetheless
released a coercive presence.
-----The Old Deus is watching, seeking to ask, seeking to criticize, as she
goes on with confusion.
From the start, this was Sugoroku, a game created by the opposing Old
Deus, silence has returned.
And yet,
"What happened to what you said, that nobody would die---- This is the
opposite, desu!?"
Even with that accusation, the Old Deus still doesn't give a damn. No----
Still not any reason to smile.
She seems to reflect that thing called laughter.
■■■■■
----Since the start of the game of the Old Deus, thirty eight days have
passed.
Everyone is drawn towards betrayal, deceit, stealing and----- taking each
other's life.
Whatever was obtained, was stolen from somebody, that was merely the
truth.
Just as a stone rolls downhill, it's just common sense if you think about it
normally.

TL note: So far we have translated like 20% of the volume 8, and we plan to release this thing by
chapters. We have started translating since the last week of march, but due to real life schedule,
we can't promise to deliver the next chapter fast. But we'll be working on it slowly until we
finish this volume 8.
