CHRISTINA ALVAREZ

It wasn’t until after her second year at Santa Ana College that Christina Alvarez

realized that she didn’t want to go into nursing.

“I was taking science classes and realized that wasn’t what I wanted. I always

loved talking and writing and was good at public speaking, so Public Relations sounded

like a right fit,” Alvarez said.

It was one of her professors that really got her interested in Public Relations as a

career. This professor, who was head of the communication and media studies

department and the advisor for the school newspaper, pushed her to work for the school

paper because he knew that she needed to get experience in writing.

After being a sports writer at Santa Ana College, she transferred to California

State University, Fullerton where she could learn more about the field that she wanted

to go into.

Alvarez, 22, has one more year of school left and is actively working toward her

goal of being an accredited Public Relations professional and an author.

Her next step is to do as many internships as she can before graduating in

the spring of 2019.

After graduation, she hopes to get a job in either special events or corporate, and

to either be starting or finishing her first book.

“The ultimate dream would be to work for Disney. I would also love to be

published.” Alvarez said.

Alvarez always knew she had a passion for writing and event planning. When

she was little, she would recreate the endings to her favorite books in the Junie B.

Jones series and dreamed of being a party or wedding planner.

Instead of writing non-fiction short stories like when she was younger, she now

hopes to write about her own experiences and issues that she’s passionate about.

“I want to write a novel on issues such as immigration, mental health, LGBT, and

lack of people of color in the media. I’m so passionate about these issues that I want to

use my voice to put out a message that others can relate to,” Alvarez said.

Within the next 10 years, Alvarez hopes to move around in the PR field and use

her knowledge in Public Relations to work for nonprofits, big corporations, and become

an advocate for mental health.
