Fellow Democratic Candidate in Hypothetical Matchup Against Peterson

A new Public Policy Polling survey finds that Democrats have a strong chance to win the
open seat in Arizona’s 2 nd Congressional District, with Democrats Matt Heinz and Ann
Kirkpatrick leading Republican candidate Lea Marquez Peterson. Heinz holds a 45-31 lead
over Peterson, while Kirkpatrick leads Peterson 43-34.

In the matchup against Peterson, Heinz receives support from a wide array of
demographics, including a plurality of women (46%), men (43%), Independents (46%),
white voters (43%), other non-white voters (49%), voters age 18 to 45 (45%), 46 to 65
(42%), older than 65 (48%), as well as a majority of Democrats (72%) and Hispanic/Latino
voters (55%).

Key findings from the survey include:

- Arizona voters have a more favorable opinion of Heinz than they do Kirkpatrick.
26% have a favorable opinion of him, and only 21% have an unfavorable opinion.
More voters have an unfavorable opinion (34%) of Kirkpatrick than they do
favorable (27%).

- Trump is unpopular in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional district with only 45%


approving of his job performance and a majority (51%) disapproving.

PPP surveyed 841 AZ-2 voters from February 8-10, 2018. The margin of error is +/-
3.4%. This poll was conducted by automated telephone interviews.
