Speed Lines Script for After Effects

Installation
1.) Locate your After Effects scripts folder
• Mac – Applications > Adobe After Effects [version] > Scripts > ScriptUI Panels
• PC – Program Files > Adobe > Adobe After Effects [version] > Support Files > Scripts
> ScriptUI Panels
2.) Move the Script (.jsxbin) file into the ‘ScriptUI Panels’ folder

How to Use

Create Speed Lines

This button will create Shape Layer paths along your motion path.
1.) Add two or more keyframes to the position of a layer.
2.) Select the layer.
3.) Click “Create Speed Lines”.

Update Speed Lines

Use this button to update Speed Lines after the script has been run.
1.) Change attributes in the Speed Lines UI Panel.
2.) Select Shape Layer.
3.) Click “Update Speed Lines”.

Number of Lines
Changes the number of strokes behind the animated object.

Separation
Changes the distance between individual strokes.

Thickness
Changes the size of the strokes.

Offset Angle
Changes the degree at which the strokes are separated from.

Parenting / Expressions
The script will analyze each frame to account for expressions and parented objects.

Effect Controls

These effects will now be available on the Shape Layer:

• Speed Lines Length: How long the strokes extend from the starting point
• Speed Lines Offset: How far the lines are separated from the starting point
• Speed Lines Enable End: Locks the end point of the stroke
• Speed Lines End: Moves the end point when ‘Speed Lines Enable End’ is checked
