ABSTRACT

In this present era, pollution is a major problem which results into health issues
and environmental problems mainly caused by fuel based vehicles. So it led to
Human Powered Vehicles (HPVs).
Taking HPVC as a platform to showcase our innovative skills in the field of
development of HPVs, our team of LNM institute of technology Jaipur has
designed and constructed “CROSSBOW”, a fast, efficient and practical HPV.
Proper analysis and testing of the frame and fairing were done on SOLIDWORKS,
ANSYS workbench and ANSYS fluent to ensure CROSSBOW met all safety
requirements stated in the RULE BOOK of ASME HPVC.
For this year’s competition, we have used AISI 1018 steel tubes for its chassis and
roll over protection system (RPS) based on material properties and its availability.
CROSSBOW is a partially faired with glass fiber and all-terrain vehicle. It can
comfortably accommodate rider of height ranging from 5’2” to 6’ with adjustable
seat .Rim breaks are used both rear and front tires. These features along with a
small carry bag makes, seat belt, and 6X3 gear system for power transmission,
reflectors, mirrors and horn make CROSSBOW a highly demandable and safe
vehicle.
This Vehicle has a field of vision of 180°. For better understanding the design
complexities, the team first constructed a prototype of the bicycle using PVCs.
This was the best effective way to make a prototype.
