VOLTAGE AND CURRENT DIVIDER PRINCIPLE
L OBJECTIVES
1, To be familiar with the application of Voltage and Current Divider Principle in electric
circuits
2. To study the relationship between resistance, voltage and current in electric circuits
I. DISCUSSION
The potential difference across each resistor in series circuit and the current flowing
through each resistor in parallel could be obtained by using’ voltage divider principle and current
divider principle respectively.
For Voltage divider (refer to Fig. 6-1):

where: V+ is the source voltage of the circuit while Ry is the total equivalent resistance.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Voltage Divider
. Connect the circuit as shown in Fig. 6-1.Refer to Appendix for DC Supply set up.
. Measure and record the resistance and the voltage across each resistor.
. Obtain the value of the voltage across each resistor by using the given equation for voltage
divider principle.
Compute the percent difference between measured and computed values for V1, Vo, and V3.

B. Current Divider
. Connect the circuit as shown in Fig. 6-2. Refer to Appendix for DC Supply set up.
. Measure and record the resistance and the current flowing through each resistor.
. Obiain the value of current through each resistor by using the given equation for current
divider principle.
4, Compute the percent difference between measured and computed values for Ii, Iz, and Is.
