NASA Worksheet

Tomorrow we will see the Falcon- 9 rocket during our tour of NASA Goddard. This
rocket is one the newest and most efficient rockets NASA has at its disposal. This
rocket is used for transporting equipment and supplies to the international space
station. The rocket travels at an astounding 45 feet per second.

1.) Create a table showing the information from the problem.

2.) Create a graph showing the distance from the ground vs time

3.) What is the rule of the equation: _______________________________?

4.) Create the expression: _______________________________________

Directions: Use the information above to help answer the questions below. Show all work
needed to complete the problem.

1.) How high is the rocket after 3 seconds? 15 seconds? 2 minutes?

2.) A mile is 5,280 ft. in any of the above time frames did the rocket go more than a mile?
How do you know?

3.) The international space station is 254 miles away. How long so it take for the rocket to
arrive? (Hint: Check your units)

4.) The tropopause is the location that the lower level our atmosphere meets the upper
most layer. It is located 30,000 ft above our heads. How long does it take this rocket to
pass the tropopause?

5.) During our tour tomorrow we hear two scientists arguing over the best rocket to use to
reach the international space station in the shortest amount of time. Scientist A says
they should use the Falcon- 9. Scientists B says they should use the Apollo- 8a which
travels at 80 ft every two seconds. Explain which scientists is correct and why.
