Non Objective Artwork

Formative assessment: Students will create a non-objective line design using the
elements of art and principles of design in a colored pencil medium with copper foil
accent.

Learning Intentions: 
I can understand and  use the elements of art within my artwork.
Students will know some of Kandinsky’s biographical information.
Students will recognize and interpret some of the works of Kandinsky.
I will show an effort to understand and use the principles of design within my artwork
I will create multiple preliminary drawings of a non-objective artwork.
I will enlarge one of preliminary artworks and add colored pencil and foil accents.

DO NOW:

Success Criteria:

Students will be able to care for and utilize colored pencils properly.
Students can list the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.
Students can successfully utilize the elements of Art and Principles of design within
their artwork.

Standards:
Through close observation and sustained investigation, Students develop individual
and global perspectives on art; utilize the principles of art; solve design problems; and
explore perspective, scale, and point of view.

Students own observation skills and discuss works of art; develop visual arts
vocabulary to describe art making, the tools and techniques used to produce art, and
the elements and principles of design; read and write about art to reinforce literacy
skills; interpret artwork by providing evidence to support assertions; reflect on the
process of making art.

Materials:
Paper, Colored Pencils,copper foil, hot glue

Activity procedure:
Day 1 Teacher will review the elements of art and principles of design with students 
Day 2 Teacher will distribute and discuss biography of Kandinsky as well as some of
his works.
Day 3 Teacher will review what a nonobjective artwork is.  Teacher will also discuss and
brainstorm with students different ideas of how to approach a nonobjective artwork.
Day 3/4 Students will begin multiple preliminary sketches of their artwork.
Day 5/8 Teacher will demo how to use copper foil and create a design with in
each.  Students will begin their large and final artwork.
Day 9 Students will take a gallery tour and participate in a class room discussion/
critique of their own as well as some of their classmates artworks.
