 By mode of operation:
o Batch (production rate < 500 lb/h)
o Continuous (production rate > 2000 lb/h)
 By mode of heat transfer
o Direct-heat (convective or adiabatic) dryers (contact with a hot gas)
o Indirect-heat (nonadiabatic; heat provided by conduction and/or radiation
from a hot surface
Used either when the material is temperature-sensitive or subject to crystal
breakage and dust or fines formation.
 Degree to which the material is agitated
o Stationary feed
o Fluidized-bed dryer
