Item Chosen: Social-Emotional Checklist for Observing a 3 Year Old Child

Rationale:

Professional knowledge and competences requires Early Childhood Educators to

have current knowledge of child development. The educator must be able to
react and know when a child needs support. Early Childhood Educators are
required to be able to work together in a professional manner with colleagues
and families, as well as present themselves in the same manner.

I chose to use my Social-Emotional checklist because it was completed near the

end of placement. It was a home-made checklist so it was catered to the child at
my placement. I was aware of the behaviours of my child I was observing so I
chose items related to this. Also to complete the checklist I had to retrieve
permission from the child’s parent, and from the lead in the pre-school room to
be able to observe this child.
