As a result of experience gained during the ars, certain modifications have been made in the methods of sampling, methods of physical'tests and the method for the determination of the war nvefractory materials, The Sectional Committee while issuing this revision felt it desirable to issue the standard in separate part: 0.3 This part is one of s of Indiaa Stan and physical tests for refractory materials, Othe? parts so far are: (Part 1)-1974 Determination of pyrometric cone equivalent (PCE) or softening point ( first revision ) (Part IL)-1974 Determination of refractoriness under load ( first revision ). (Part IIT)-1974 Determination of spalling resistance (first revision ). (Part V)-1974 Determination of modulus of rupture (first revision). (Part VI)-1974 Determination of permanent change after reheating (rst revision ). ds on methods of sampling nthe series publis IS : 1528 ( Part IV ) - 1974 (Part VII)-1974 Methods of sampling and criteria for conformity (first revision). 0.4 In reporting the result of a test or analysis made in accordance with tihs standard, if the final value, observed or calculated, is to be rounded off, it shall be done in accordance with IS ; 2-1960*. 1. SCOPE 1.1 This standard ( Part IV ) prescribes the method of test for determination of cold crushing strength of refractory materials, 2. TERMINOLOGY 2.1 For the purpose of this standard, the definitions given in IS : 4041-1967 shall apply. 3, DETERMINATION WF COLD CRUSHING STRENGTH 3.1 Apparatus 3.1.1 Testing Machine ~-Any form of standard mechanical or hydraulic compression testing machine may be used, 3.1.2 Spherical Bearing Block ~The spherical bearing block shall have a plane bearing surface, the area of which 1s equal to or greater than the cross section of the test specimen 3.2 Test Specimens 3.2.1 The test specimens shall preferably be standard 230 mm bricks or specimens of equivalent size ground or cut from refractory shapes. In the case of special shapes or otherwise, smaller sizes may be used the original surfaces as possible shall be preserved, In all c: ) secimen shall be cut from a single brick or shape without weakening or maging the structure of the sample, Ni » revise the size of the test specimer surfaces as possible keeping the direction of loading on of pressing of relizctories. Tests have been initiated nd the modifications will be carried out crushing strength for the various types of re andards with as niany of the or during test along the dir with this size of specimen data was available on co! materials covered by Indi 3.2.2 Preparation of Test Specimen — Th load from the-testing machine shall be ground or cut plane and parallel. If in order to fill up any depression mark, a sand-cement mortar or plaster of Paris shall be u cd.
