Position Description

Job Title School Director / CEO

Reporting To The School of St Jude Ltd Board

Direct Reports Business Manager and Academic Head

Commitment Minimum 3 years

Main Purposes 1. To be the educational leader of the school, providing the vision and
professional leadership for the school, shaping the program and quality of
life of the school community and responsible for the achievement of the
school's mission.
2. To effectively manage the school’s finances to ensure the ongoing financial
viability of St Jude’s.
3. To develop and implement policies and procedures.
4. To oversee the day-to-day management and administration of the entire
school, working alongside the management team.
5. To attract, retain, and develop qualified staff.
6. Ensure that all requirements of The Tanzanian Ministry of Education are met
and updated accordingly so that the school maintains its registration.
Position • Oversee the management of The School of St Jude to ensure targets and
Accountabilities objectives of the school’s strategic plan are understood and adopted by all
relevant stakeholders.
• Responsible for the overall leadership, support and guidance for all staff of
the school.
• Ensure the school management team is working to achieve the educational
and financial obligations set by the board.
• Ensure that school policies and practices take into account the requirements
of the national and local educational requirements of Tanzania.
• Monitor, evaluate and review the impact of policies and take appropriate
action if necessary.
• Set appropriate priorities for expenditure and allocation of funds.
• Manage and organise the schools resources efficiently and effectively to
ensure they meet the needs of the school.
• Ensure that all academic and non-academic staff are deployed effectively,
that their potential is being maximised and that they are being given the
opportunity for development.
• Ensure that the school environment promotes and secures good teaching,
effective learning, high standards of achievement and a harmonious team
spirit among staff members.
• Monitor and evaluate the overall performance of the school.

• Demonstrate strong personal values and judgement to ensure that education


takes place in a safe, secure and caring environment.
• Provide inspiring, motivating and purposeful leadership for all staff and
students.
• Lead the management team, oversee monthly management meetings and
report to the board on a monthly basis.
• Energise and motivate stakeholders in the school including parents, donors,
sponsors, visitors, students and staff.
• Oversee the effective development, implementation and monitoring of sound
marketing and fundraising strategies to underpin the schools financial
viability.
• Promote the school both locally and internationally.
Person Specification: Qualifications and Experience:

• Previous experience as a Senior Manager within a large educational


establishment is essential.
• A Degree in Education from a recognised institution is mandatory and
additional qualifications in management or business administration would be
highly desirable.
• Experience in leading change within an educational environment.
• Experience in working in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Experience in working with local and international staff with wide-ranging
skills.
• Experience in managing, inspiring, motivating and developing staff.
• Experience in financial and marketing management.
• Experience in a boarding school preferred.
• Experience in working within a developing country preferred.
• Clear understanding and a deep appreciation of and commitment to the
mission, values, organisation and traditions of The School of St. Jude.

Practical Skills:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.


• A proficiency in English.
• A high level of computer literacy.
• An ability to demonstrate sound organisational skills, work under pressure in
a developing country and determine priorities to meet deadlines.
