S - Previous day students came into class, have their crunch and sip and do an independent task.

T - Today they are rolling a dice and doing repeated addition with the numbers that they rolled.
Writing it out in their Books. The next day, my mentor teacher said for the students to do the same
task. As I was walking around the room interacting with students and greeting Parents,

A - I noticed one boy, Harry. He was looking around the room instead of doing his work. He already
had done half a page and had a look on his face that said, 'this is too easy'. I asked him and he said
yes, It’s too easy. I said, when you roll the dice, make the number into the tens e.g 6 – 60 or into the
hundreds 6 – 600. He then did the equations and still said it was easy. I said he could roll the dice 3
or 4 times and do repeated addition.

R – He then came up with his own that you multiply - 3 x 6 and then he did 40 x 10. I got a student,
who gets easily off track when the task is too easy or too hard, to complete the activity at hand with
changing slight details to the task and letting him create his own rules to the game so that he
continued to complete his work as he was more engaged.
