Q1. A particle starts (t = 0) to descend from point A and has to travel along the straight line
AB (figure below). The velocity along the path is given by ⃗⃗⃗ √ ⃗⃗⃗ . Calculate
(a) the time to travel from A to B, and
(b) The acceleration components an and at at any position between A and B along the path.

Solution to Q1.
Q2. At halftime of a football game souvenir, balls are thrown from point A towards the
spectators with a velocity v0 (figure below). Determine the range of values of v0 if the balls
are to land between points B and C.

Solution to Q2.
Q3. Cars move around the “traffic circle” which is in the shape of an ellipse. If the speed
limit is posted at 60 km h, determine the minimum acceleration experienced by the
passengers.

Q4. The car travels around the circular track with a constant speed of 20 m/s. Determine the
car’s radial and transverse components of velocity and acceleration at the instant rad.
