Dear Parent/Guardian,
I want to bring the following items to your attention in this February Newsletter.
Local Community Garda Albert Hardiman gave a talk to the pupils in 5th & 6th class on internet safety.
The key message was that children must be supervised when online and that children under the age of 13
years should not be on Facebook, Snap Chat or Instagram. For more information on internet safety for
parents visit www.internetsafety.ie or www.webwise.ie
Confirmation will take place in here in the school on Friday March 2nd at 3.00pm. We wish the
Confirmation children well in their preparations for this sacrament.
Catholic Schools Week was celebrated in the school. Ms. Behan and Fr. Dariusz coordinated the events
for the children and each class attended mass in the oratory for one day during the week.
School Uniform
Our school uniform is very important and it is special to our school. All children must wear their full uniform
including the tie every day at school except the days that they have PE. We want all children to be wearing the
full correct uniform before we move into our new school. Please ensure your child has the correct uniform
and tracksuit and if you need to buy any part of it please do so as soon as possible.
Attendance
Since we returned to school on the 31st of August, we have had a very good average attendance of 93%. Please
make every effort to have your child at school each day and all absences must be explained with a note or
medical cert to the class teacher or to Ms. Sheehan our Pupil Support worker. If you ever have to collect your
child early from school you must sign them out at the secretary’s office.
Fundraising to help finish off our new school
Clothes Collection: This was a fantastic success. The lorry had to come back and do two runs such was the
amount of clothes. We managed to raise €3,300 and thank you for donating old clothes.
Split the Pot: This draw is a fantastic success and congratulations to all our winners so far. The Jackpot is nearly
always around €400 with the winner receiving up to €200 or more each week. The draw will be on every
Thursday and for €2 a week everyone has a chance to win half the pot if your name is pulled out of the hat. If
you’re not in you can’t win!
HSCL News
Both our Cookery & Computers classes are running very successfully at the moment with our participants
learning new skills everyday along with making new friends and sharing a cuppa!
We hope to run some classroom programmes in our new school but in line with child protection
guidelines Garda vetting is required for all parents who would like to be involved. We are inviting all
parents of our school to be Garda vetted to ensure the continuity of welcoming parents into our school
and our classrooms.
Please contact Ms O’Connor on 087-6461836 if you would like to be vetted or have any queries.
Please keep a close eye on our Facebook Page ‘Scoil Chríost Rí Parents Information Page’ for updates on
all that is happening in relation to parents in our school.
Ms O’Connor is our Home School Community Liaison Coordinator and she is only too happy to help &
support you in any way she can. Contact her on 087-6461836.
Yours sincerely
Gearóid Roughan
Principal
