February 2018 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian,
I want to bring the following items to your attention in this February Newsletter.

Moving into New School

The move into our new school is getting very close and there is great excitement building here. The builders have
made fantastic progress as you can see and I will have an update for you next week with the exact date we are
moving in.

School News and Achievements

 Safer Internet Day took place on 6th February. This year’s theme was: “Create, connect and share
respect: A better internet starts with you.” Classes made posters, took “Super Selfies” and had class
discussions on how we can use the internet in a productive, safe and respectful way. Internet Safety is
something which we take very seriously here at Scoil Chríost Rí and we encourage everyone to visit our
Internet Safety Page for more information.
Scan the code to test your child’s knowledge on internet safety and to hear a catchy rap!

Local Community Garda Albert Hardiman gave a talk to the pupils in 5th & 6th class on internet safety.
The key message was that children must be supervised when online and that children under the age of 13
years should not be on Facebook, Snap Chat or Instagram. For more information on internet safety for
parents visit www.internetsafety.ie or www.webwise.ie
 Confirmation will take place in here in the school on Friday March 2nd at 3.00pm. We wish the
Confirmation children well in their preparations for this sacrament.
 Catholic Schools Week was celebrated in the school. Ms. Behan and Fr. Dariusz coordinated the events
for the children and each class attended mass in the oratory for one day during the week.

Enrolment for Junior Infants 2018

Scoil Chríost Rí is accepting applications for enrolment of junior infants for September 2018. You can call into
the school and you will be most welcome to receive an application form for enrolment. If you know anybody
looking to enrol their child in the school, please tell them to contact the school office for an application
form. The closing date for receipt of applications is Thursday, March 15th at 3pm. Please return application
forms before this date.

Arriving at school on time

Our new school will have a buzzer and the front door locks automatically at 9.00 a.m. Children must be in school
on time before 9.00 a.m. It is very important that children are on time every morning for school.
Well done to all the children who made a big effort to come to school on time in January and February and
congratulations to the children who won prizes for being on time every day.

School Uniform
Our school uniform is very important and it is special to our school. All children must wear their full uniform
including the tie every day at school except the days that they have PE. We want all children to be wearing the
full correct uniform before we move into our new school. Please ensure your child has the correct uniform
and tracksuit and if you need to buy any part of it please do so as soon as possible.

Attendance
Since we returned to school on the 31st of August, we have had a very good average attendance of 93%. Please
make every effort to have your child at school each day and all absences must be explained with a note or
medical cert to the class teacher or to Ms. Sheehan our Pupil Support worker. If you ever have to collect your
child early from school you must sign them out at the secretary’s office.
Fundraising to help finish off our new school
Clothes Collection: This was a fantastic success. The lorry had to come back and do two runs such was the
amount of clothes. We managed to raise €3,300 and thank you for donating old clothes.
Split the Pot: This draw is a fantastic success and congratulations to all our winners so far. The Jackpot is nearly
always around €400 with the winner receiving up to €200 or more each week. The draw will be on every
Thursday and for €2 a week everyone has a chance to win half the pot if your name is pulled out of the hat. If
you’re not in you can’t win!
