Madam Mayor,

In the short time of my transition from leading economic development for Oakland County I have
received many kind offers seeking to bring my expertise to an environment where together great
things can happen. I am honored that the City of Flint would embrace my skills with such optimism
and vision. However, at this time I must respectfully decline your generous offer.

As we were discussing the strategies for growth in the City and how I might help with this important
work, I accepted a very important position, that of leading the Campaign for Brian Calley to be our
State’s next Governor. This role is significant to me personally having worked with the Lt. Governor
for many years, and knowing the importance of this upcoming election for our state.

Since the action by your good city council recommending an offer of contract to my firm, there has
been enough critical attention that I know such concurrent work would result in a detriment both to
the City of Flint and myself. I have great respect for what you are accomplishing in Flint and believe
in the vision. In fact, I ask that upon the successful conclusion of my work on behalf of Lt.
Governor Calley we might again engage in the opportunity of what my background and passion may
bring to your work. Unfortunately, any effort will have to wait until that time.

I apologize for any difficulty this decision may cause, and wish you the best of good work in the
coming months.
