Senior Systems Administrator
I architected and managed a “high data availability,” scalable IT infrastructure with a team of only three
people, all while balancing budget and complex engineering requirements, and coordinating between
operations, lab, bioinformatics, and Senior Management. I tightly coordinated our UNIX team of three to
deliver the right solutions the first time and then keep the systems up and running.
• Argued and won for long-term expansion data centre capacity while reducing power usage, for both cost
savings and green thinking.
• Achieved 99.99%+ uptime. (less than 18 hours total downtime per year)
• Constantly coordinated between departments of to optimize data usage in 40TB genotype database. This
HA data was the core asset of our company.
• Showed foresight in implementation of network security plan ahead of SOX.
I was the fourth employee at this company, and built its technical infrastructure from the ground up. I
managed often-conflicting requirements from all departments in a start-up environment and drove
communications between Operations and Engineering, resulting in fast development/release cycles with
higher operational uptimes. I supervised 5 people.
• Implemented open-source cutover saving 72% in annualized operating costs.
• Led data centre change, resulting in 30% annualized operating cost savings.
