When stealth is more important than
so-called stopping power, then sub-
sonic 5.56x4smm ammunition may be
the answer. Tho 63-grain Ultra Stealth
Match ammunition from Engel Ballistic
Research has dominated the market-
place for some time. Note from the
performance SPL table that the scund
‘Signatures daiivered by suppressed
weapons with EBR subsonic are often
less than a Crosman American Classic
Model 1977 .177 caliber air pistol,
which dalvers a sound pressure level
0 120-123 dB, depending on the num-
bor of pumps. Furthermore, I'vo shot
sub-MOA groups with a pristine, sup-
pressed M4 carbine at 100 yards. Most
Suppressed weapons I've used with
EBR ammo deliver 1 to 2 hich groups
at 100 yards. Factors such as chamber
and bartel dimensions, barral woar,
sound suppressor design, end sighting
system all factor into an individual
‘weapon's performance with subsonic
ammunition.
Black Hils 62-grain FMJ was used
for much ofthe testing because it mim:
ics the performance of MASS ball. No
longer in production, it has been
replaced by a superior tactical round
featuring a Sierra Matching bullet.
