ABC Community School
PROBLEM!!
Schools in the Clark County School District have spent a tremendous amount of
money on hardware and software in each school. Your school, “ABC Community
School” is, and has been considered a leader in the district, with a
student/computer ratio of 2:1, each computer is networked with access to a
shared file server, and also has a high speed digital connection to the Internet.
Your school has a large number of peripheral devices like laptops, scanners,
graphic tablets, digital science probes, PDA’s, and printers; including the items
your presented during your software/emerging technology project during week 5.
In addition, your school has the same software loaded on each machine as in the
labs at CSN. Basically you have a wealth of materials you can draw from.
Because of increasing pressure from National, State, and Local education
agencies, and looming budget cuts, the local School Board wants ALL schools in
the district to discontinue using technology in the classroom, and concentrate
instruction solely on the topics needed to pass standardized multiple choice
performance exams.

OH NO!!!!
2. Position Paper
Teaching and Learning with Technology is on the rise. Students now, for the
most part, have iPads, TV’s, and several other technological devices in their hands.
Technology is all around us and our students. It is an undeniable resource that is and
will always keep growing. It is up to teacher’s to embrace the rapid changes, and
include technology lessons into our curriculum. “Incorporating technology into the
classroom means that students have exposure and access to different ways of
learning,” said by Amanda Ronan in the article, “The Pros and Cons of Technology”
With the world, as it is today, it is built on technology. Teacher’s need to not
steer lessons away from technology, but embrace “the ways on technology.” By
incorporating technology into the curriculum, teachers can open doors to their
students. Everything and most things are done with technology. Whether it’s the
latest app, future career, or schooling; technology is always there. Adding technology
into the curriculum will give students a jump start into becoming versatile,
comfortable, and adaptive to technology.
Is technology bad for students? Some cons listed in the “The Pros and Cons of
Technology,” by Amanda Ronan, state that there are higher chances of plagiarism, it
can become distracting to most students and take them away from the actual lesson,
cause students to become dependent on technology, and several more. There are
more pros. Several apps and websites have been created for students to help and
track their progress through school. As well as educational websites to help students
expand their knowledge. With technology, knowledge is at the fingertips of every
person.
With always upgrading, coming up with inventive new ways to teach, and
technology changing and growing; it is up to teachers, schools, and districts to keep
up to date with everything. Educator’s jobs are to expand and teach our students to
the best of their ability, so why not incorporate technology? A source that can and
always will provide for students. A way that can not only be a fun, inventive to create
lessons to allow our students to grow. With technology, anything is possible. “If a
child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” –

3. Identification of Standards
For each state, education may tend to vary. Different learning styles and
concepts can change in every state. While some lessons, are taught the same. With
each state having different standards for education, each standard needs to be taken
seriously for the benefit of the student’s education; regardless of what state a
teaching is educating in. 2016 ISTE Standards for Students, Nevada Computer and
Technology Standards Classroom Technology Integration for the 21st Century,
Common Core, and Performance Level Descriptors Computer and Technology
Education Standards are examples of standards teachers need to follow.
2016 ISTE Standards for Students: Based on four main concepts; 1.) Creativity and
Innovation, 2.) Communication and Collaboration, 3.) Research and Information
Fluency, 4.) Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making. Within each
concept are given points on each main point. Lessons are directed around these
concepts.
Nevada Computer and Technology Standards, Classroom Technology Integration for
the 21st Century: States technology has to be inputted into the curriculum, and as
well follow the ISTE Standards for Students. With the four ISTE Standards being
inputted, it also includes, Digital Citizenship and Technology Operations and
Concepts. With each concept, it gives a point and steps to follow and incorporate
while planning out a lesson.
Performance Level Descriptors Computer and Technology Education Standards: For
this, it indicates what technology standard a student is at; exceeding, standard, or
below. Within each, it gives examples of why the student in placed into the category.
It is organized by each grade level.
Common Core: For each grade level, different technology lessons are introduced,
reinforced, skilled on mastery, and some are optional. Depending on each grade
level, students are graded on how well they do, what they should be succeeding on,
and whether they are grasping concepts, lessons, and being able to complete lessons
with technology.
Each standard holds its importance to help students grow and succeed, so
they should all be considered, looked into by detailed, and followed.

Penny the Dancing Pig
Once upon a time, there was a cute, pink pig. She loved to eat, sunbathe,
learn, but most of all; DANCE. Her name was Penny Oinks. She had passion to
boogie all day and all night long. She danced while she clean. Danced while she
did homework. Danced in the grocery store. Penny danced everywhere.
One day while strutting her moves down the sidewalk, on her way home,
she saw sign. “Dance Your Heart Out Competition this Saturday at 5:00 p.m., be
there or you WILL be missing out.” Penny gasped, grabbing a flyer, and sprinting
home.
Penny squeals with excitement, and tells her parents all about in. The
Oinks were not all that fond of Penny’s love for dancing. They thought it was
pointless, and Penny could do a lot more with her time. Mr. and Mrs. Oinks give
each other a look, and shoot Penny’s hopes of entering the dance competition
down. Penny’s big grin went to a deep frown, as she goes for a walk around the
block.
As Penny was walking around her neighborhood, kicking a rock; she
accidentally bumps into a koala named Kalvin. Kalvin notices how sad Penny
looks, and decides to walk alongside her. Penny vents and tells Kalvin everything,
and Kalvin encourages to do the completion and tells her he is an aspiring DJ,
who would love to make her a remix the dance to.
Together Kalvin and Penny begin to create music and a dance. Filled with
laughter, hard work, and a great connection; the two became the best of friends.
It’s the day of the dance competition. Penny is nervous as she leaves her
house, secretly leaving a note on the fridge telling her parents where she’s going;
in hopes that they will come. Penny picks up Kalvin and off they go to the dance
competition.
POP, LOCK, AND JAMMMMMM! Everyone is extremely good, and this
starts to make Penny nervous. Kalvin calms her down right before the go on.
Kalvin starts his funky jams, Penny comes out, and dances her heart. The
audience roars with claps, yelling “encore, encore, encore!!!!!” Penny feels
happy.
Awards come, and *drumroll* Penny is announced the winner! Kalvin yells
“I knew you could do it,” and hugs Penny. Penny’s parents actually came and
were so proud, and gave her a hug too.
From the competition day, Penny’s parents have been supportive and
encourage her dancing. Penny dances every day and all day, but now she gets to
boogie with her best friend Kalvin too.
