Captain America Civil War

Synopsis
We find Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard
humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure
mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team.
The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps - one led by Steve Rogers and his
desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other
following Tony Stark's surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Box Office on opening Night:

Fifth biggest box office opening in history

Made $181.8 million opening weekend in North America

 Civil War was unopposed by any major studio wide competition when released.
 Was released in the summer
 There aren’t that many highly anticipated sequels this summer,” remarked one non-
Disney distribution chief.
 “It gets such a head start, and there’s nothing that’s going to catch up to it,” said one rival
distribution chief about Civil War’s wise spot on the calendar,
 It finished with the fifth-highest domestic opening of all-time with $179.1M.
 Disney owns five of the top six all-time openings, four of them belonging to Marvel movies (The
Avengers, $207.4M; Avengers: Age of Ultron, $191.3M; Civil War and Iron Man 3, $174.1M).
 It was predicted that Civil War would hit $1B worldwide in the week after the release.
 total cost all-in for production and P&A is factored at $430M
 The Russo Brother’s movie will reap the benefits of the number of schools on summer break in
the weekends to come: Today there is 36% colleges off per comScore, a number that swells to
53% this Friday and to 84% on the Friday prior to Memorial Day. Even though there’s only 1% K-
12 schools off on May 13, that number will surge to 33% over the same frame.
 Marvel won’t be introducing any stand-alone superhero character movies during the first
weekend of May for some time.
 A Cinema Score (which when you divide up most of the Marvel film’s demos, many age groups
gave it a A+), 90% Rotten Tomatoes fresh score (higher than Ultron‘s 75%), and a 75 MetaCritic
score (higher than Avengers 69 and Ultron‘s 66).
 Released on memorial Day
 In its second frame, it is set to hold No. 1 with an industry-projected $72M, -60%, which is close
to Ultron’s sophomore decline. Only competition being Money Monster, tracking at $12.5M.
 In its third session, May 20-22, Civil War will have a harder time for No. 1 with a mid-$30M take,
competing against Angry Birds and Neighbors 2: Sorority Uprising both expected to do about
$40M.
 Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian of Civil War‘s, “The film is a knockout and it has
everything going for it, and once the word gets out that it’s really an Avengers movie in Captain
America‘s clothing, the box office trajectory will only intensify. This is the dream film to kick off
the summer of 2016
 If Captain America kicks butt the film’s opening will have to hope the audience will expand to
give them a shot at box office returns.
