Grade Level: 4th-6th Grade

Objective: What do you want the children to learn?

 As the teacher, I want my children to learn what it was like being a child living in

the Alamo during the fifteen-day battle.

Materials:

1.) Enrique Esparza and The Battle of the Alamo book written by Susan Taylor Brown.

2.) Note Cards

Steps of the Lesson:

1.) Give the students a note card and ask them to write two things that they already knew

about The Battle of the Alamo.

2.) Read the authors note from the book on pages 32-33.

3.) Have the children read the script from the back of the book on pages 37-44.

4.) Let the students act out how they want as they are reading.

5.) At the end, tell each of the students to write on the opposite side of the note card from

the beginning, and ask them to write down two to three things that they learned that

they did not know before the lesson.

Evaluation: As an evaluation, I as the teacher would read the note cards that the students had

written on and evaluate their previous knowledge, along with their skills to listen and understand

another side of The Battle of the Alamo.
